OK, so... how weird is this... I'm guessing it's not that weird but it's new to me

A girl I know on facebook is friends with another girl, who is in a relationship with a guy that I don't know, but is mutual friends with a girl I know.

I'm sure this will become more frequent the more people I friend on there... I've only been on about a year or so...

anyone else notice any weird degrees?

Royal's college roommate was a good friend of mine in the late '90s and early '00s that i am still in touch with today (largely thanks to FB). it's likely i would never have known that if not for FB.

I've got 725 connections on FB, I'm pretty active, and I don't have a lot of a problem jumping in and hassling friends of friends who post stupid fuckin' comments on my friend's walls, or posts. This has led me to notice a handful of "one off connections." Like, somebody I know from one school, being friends with somebody whose also friends with somebody I know from another school.

Yep! Just saw her a few weeks ago at a conference- she just got tenure at her job! She was actually my "big sister" in this big sister little sister thing my grad school did, where they would hook up new students with older students who would show them the ropes. Plus we both worked for the same prof in grad school. :)

A few months ago this really famous sociologist (who I've never met) who does research similar to mine emailed me on facebook and was like "I know your name from your research...but how is it that you're facebook friends with my ex-husbands son???" Turns out we went to middle school together...

You want to hear a really good one? :)

We are friends with Carolyn, aka moonstone, from these boards.

We went on a cruise a few years ago and met this really awesome couple from Texas. Hung out with them on the beach in St. Kitts, had some beers, hung out on the ship! We exchange email addresses and myspace (because this was before facebook was a big craze).

So, we kept in touch, found each other on facebook.

Turns out...the girl went to school, high school, with Carolyn, and they were friends! LOL

We got a message from Carolyn saying HOW DO YOU KNOW ALLISON?

Seriously, such a small world. Thought that was pretty cool. :ura1:

that is really cool...

I'm sure we'll all be noticing this a lot more since facebook is a relatively new thing to begin with.

Yeah I mean, really...we flew to Puerto Rico to board this cruise...so the odds of meeting people on a ship of a few thousand that end up being friends with one of our friends...it's just crazy!

One of my "friends" from another site recognized Joecool's last name and asked if he had a brother from such and such place...turns out she worked with him.
But it works in the real world that way too....in northern Italy at an unfamiliar winery last year, someone asks my husband "hey, you got a brother that graduated from such and such high?" Turns out they knew each others whole families
