Is it to keep yucky babies from having physical contact with adults?

Prior to about 14 months, babies have the vestigial "butt spur". It was used in caveman times so mothers could hang the infants on tree trunks to keep them away from predators, but in the modern age they are no longer needed, like your appendix. So they eventually wither and fall off.

That little bastard is sharp, so the pillows help to prevent parental injuries.

I'm guessing you are talking about the boppy? It helps prop the baby up and makes both her and the baby holder more comfortable during breastfeeding/feeding/holding in general.

I actually have 2. LOL

Emelia loves it. And, it's good for doing tummy time to improve her head holding up skills. And, it's just cozy in general. I used it for 2 weeks prior to Emelia being born when I was in my most umcomfortable period of pregnancy. I used it around my neck and propped myself up with it on the couch. COZY!

Sometimes when she makes my arm go asleep, I put her on the couch next to me inside the boppy with my legs around it. :)

Does it = less physical contact between baby and adults?

I believe they are used for uncontrolable babies during holding and feeding times...if they keep spitting up or won't stop crying, you just turn baby over and smother them for a spell...ya know...just 'til they learn a lesson :cowboy:

No, because the baby is usually nose deep in a boobie while propped up on the boppy.

The boppy is placed under the baby on your lap, so no, baby is in complete physical contact with the person holding him/her.

Wait, how is baby still in physical contact with lap when on cushion?

Obviously if the person is breast feeding the baby still has contact with boob. I am inquiring regarding the non-feeding holders.

Usually the baby is in contact with the holder's arms and chest. Sometimes you take a chance and see if the baby can stay on the boppy without falling. That's why you put a second boppy on the floor.

It allows for better physical contact because baby is resting higher up on the holders torso.

this thread brings to mind one of the greatest recordings of all time. Shooby Taylor's rendition of "Stout Hearted Men".

"boppy" sounds eerily like one of his preferred scat syllables. enjoy.

Or just practice, practice, practice.

You also don't have to have the baby propped up on the pillow. I sometimes put her in the circular opening so just hear little head is resting on the pillow, allowing her body to still be touching my lap/stomach...

It's a contraption I wish I had invented. Now they make body pillows for uncomfortable pregnant ladies, specific pillows for tummy time for babies (which yes, we did get one of these little pillows at our shower), and they even make travel pillows.

Big market for these things!
