well. it looks like i'll be back in long island. it was a long hard road. as i am sure many of you know i spent 4 months in jail. i lost nearly everything. my car. my home. the girl of my dreams. i came out thinking i had all that still, so i had no plan to deal with my reality. i did what i do best when the shit hits the fan, i made my way up to Albany to try and get my shit together and did not succeed. i came down to nyc with no money and nowhere to stay for more than a few days... two months later i had more than worn out my welcome, so i left. i spent some time sleeping on a park bench. feeling lost and hopeless. didn't eat for more than a week. i had given up. i had exhausted my job possibilities within walking distance, had no mass transit money and was ready to die there. i seriously gave up on any of my efforts being fruitful. my only hope in the world was that i still had a smartphone, found a place to charge it and had wifi from my bench. i spent as much time as i could trying to find work and after five month, i finally found something. it's big. it's my dream career. and today, i was chauffeured from the Bronx to Long Island and told the job is mine if i want it. i start tomorrow and it comes with a bed for me to sleep in, cable, wifi the works. it's almost too good to be true. it is true though. very real and actually happening. somebody pinch me just to make sure
:qte:

special thanks to all you that listened to me when i needed to cry about my various woes over the last few months. you know who you are and i hope you know i love you. Always.

i get treated like a kid
i get lied to constantly and then get falsely accused of lying
i was supposed to be working in an office... after two days in the office i was doing labor around this guys house and have been ever since
what was agreed upon was 4 or 5 hours a day 4 days a week and became 10 to 12 hours a day 5 or 6 days a week immediately
i was promised all kinds of money before i started and so far i have made less than $3 an hour
i have ruined all the clothes i have and the only pair of shoes i own... it would cost more than i have been paid to replace them
i got woke up this morning an hour before i was supposed to start to get yelled at for something i didn't do and i have been eating shit all morning over something i didn't even do

i am done
i am homeless, jobless and don't have a dime to my name, but it's better than being treated like that

Best of luck finding what you need in life, stay happy and stay safe.

John it's time you start heading people's advice on here. Make positive changes that will lead your life in a good direction. I've been working on it myself for years. Small steps will get you there. You just have to want it. good luck.

If you are in Suffolk County go to Social Services and tell them you need intimidate help.

Tell them you have no money, no food and no shelter.

They have to give you some food that day and usually will help you everything else pretty quickly.

Also go to a Catholic Church they will help you. There is a good network of help on Long island.

stay strong....

That is unfortunate. I would suggest going forward, to get agreements in written form of this nature. Best of luck to you.

And if you plan on going to one of these shelters be careful walking thru Hempstead at night. Def. not a walk in the park.

Wish I could help ya out more.

Jon, you have received more practical advice on here than anyone here could possibly recall. The problem is it's all advice on how to function in society, which may be your issue, not everyone is cut out for social living.

The position of being completely free with essentially nothing to lose is priceless. To squander it is frustrating to watch.

a park bench? jesus man.

hitch a ride to the ADK park. you're in NYC... the supplies available to you are endless. you could make a backpack out of refuse in a few days. collect metal scraps... use your phone to watch vids on youtube on how to make basic fishing lures. learn to live off the land, free. make shelter, fire, prepare for winter. hook up with through hikers on the AT. hang around the ADK lodge to make connections with kids from the student conservation corps. or hitch to VT and do the same thing on the LT.

Obviously it's not all you need. My point is simply that if you are at the stage of existing on a park bench with nothing to do and nowhere to go it may be time to expand your thinking about how you can live.

I've met people in the backcountry who were basically self-taught in how to live and eat well with no money. Learned to make their own clothes, hunt, fish, got their bodies used to drinking unfiltered water so cryptosporidium and giardia didn't affect them. It was actually pretty impressive to see and personally I find it a cool skillset to be able to live well completely off the grid like that. And is obtainable if you are motivated. It sure as fuck beats homeless shelters, panhandling or sleeping on the street imho.

Bump for perspective. Same story, different locale.

Its hard to believe that NY wouldn't help you either. I was born and raise in NY and know people who receive assistance currently.
The help IS out there. You just need to be open and receptive to it and conform if you have to.....for survival.

This is my last $0.02 (I'm sure you are relieve at that)
I wish you the best.
