What was the deal last year? I hear that the scanners and computers crashed and this is why it took 5 hours to get in?...I also heard that there were 50% more people that arrived Thursday at 8 am then ever before? Nans?

Can someone explain what really happened? We might plan on arriving at noon on Thursday if its gonna be a shit show like last year.

I arrived at 7:30 am to a huge line near the highway. Kinda fun at first, drinking, smoking with people in the road. No bullshit it took 5 hours 15 minutes for us to reach our campsite. The heat had killed us before we even set up the tent. I wouldn't expect any less of a wait this year Terrapin..that's why I got VIP.

While I wont go into specifics of what the problems were last year at the camping entrance, I can assure you that HQ is already making every effort to ensure that they do not arise again this year.

... as for your arrival time, I'd come at 8, or at noon. That's just my two cents. It's a toss up of wanting to enter the park early in the morning with everyone else, and get set up early. Or, waiting till the main influx settles down a little and come in a little later.

Please dont come before 8, that actually contributes to the issues.

Took me 5 hours 15 minutes. Arrived at 7:30 am thursday, got to my campsite at 12:45 pm. I wouldn't expect any difference this year. Go VIP.

While I didn't have a 5 hour wait, my wait was painful enough to pull the trigger on a vip ticket this year for a quick ingress. From what I saw last year having a vendor ticket and twice being misdirected to the VIP entrance it was smooth sailing....until people figured out that I had to go the slow route....pissed me off since I was almost in at the vip entrance twice.

Now the challenge of entering at vip and camping in the boardie area....I see a pull cart in my future unless I get a nice golf cart escort.

just tell the guys when they search you so they can give you a separate golf cart escort and dont put you in line with people going to regular vip camping
unless they moved boardie a long ways, its not that far :dunno:

We had the best golf cart escort one year. they must of sensed the heady mojo, right through the arches and into boardie camping. All we did was ask where we go to get to the regular camping entrance. Mad props to nikkiblue and jnjn for pulling that one off :pimp:

Back in '07 we had boardie passes and were directed right into the boardie camping area within minutes. Problem was just that. We never waited in line, nor did we get wrist bands. We got in and were like "hmmm.. something was too easy about that." It was a nice long walk to get those wrist bands and a whole lot of baffled folks working trying to figure out what happened.

I wonder how efficient checking every single car is. It takes forever. Couldn't they just wave on evry 5th or 6th car? How much contraband is collected? Even if they waved every 5th car, the line would move 20% faster....

No, they stop and search every car to score nitrous and a shit ton of booze/beer in bottles. I was thinking about donating my time if I can keep everything I find...but that would be sort of dickish.

The thing that was annoying last year is at the entrance there were tons of volunteers just sitting in chairs watching traffic. wouldn't it make more sense to have these people standing where traffic has to merge from multiple lines and have them directing so groups can stay together and cars keep moving instead of a having a clusterfuck at every merge point of cars trying to edge each other out.

The traffic jams are the bane of every single festival. Fortunately, I have not had the displeasure of of waiting all that long to get in for any of the ones I've been to. The longest was Bonnaroo in 05 which was at 3 hours. I do like the idea of a separate entrance for VIP at Vibes though. At Summer Camp it's a separate line, same entrance and actually took exponentially longer than the general admission, uber frustrating.

its always a long wait to get into vibes. you need to get there bright and early on thursday to skip some of it. with any festival its going to be that way. it was just soo hot last year that my air condition pretty much stopped working and finally after 3hrs of being in line, when we got up the search part my car wouldn't start!!! called my road side and it started so it was all good!! im getting there really early thursday morning this year. i live in albany and it takes about 3 hrs so i am leaving at 5am!! i can not wait!!

When my wife and I went back in '09, yes we had to wait longer. There were two lanes of VIP traffic going into the field. For each car they searched it, took your ticket, went up to the ticket booth, and brought back your wrist band(s). Nothing fast about it. Can only hope they improved.

However, the VIP was great. Cheap bar, air conditioned bathrooms and showers, the roped off viewing area was nice and close to the stage (not crowded). Besides the wait, well worth it.

many years ago, they had a separate entrance for families with kids. that was the best!! When I go solo, I just suck up the fact that the wait is part of the experience. When you don't wait & they don't search, that's when the shit show starts. So I'll gladly wait. It's just really hard to do with little ones in tow

No matter what time you get there, be prepared for an extended wait in line if you are in general camping. Make sure your car is in good shape and has enough gas (some people ran out last year and had to be pushed) due to the over 5 hour wait. Be prepared to stop often as the line moves slowly. Many people get out of the car, hang with others on the street, push their car to save gas. It's fun for a while but with last year's heat it got old quickly. Don't get too wasted while in line because you still have to set up camp. For all these reasons, I got VIP this year.

it sounds like vibes is aware of what happened last year and trying to do what they can to change it this year. let's hope for the best! entering the campgrounds for phish at watkin's glen last summer was quick and efficient; i was at my campsite within a 1/2--very cool! but we're talking about 2 different sites. 1/2 hour 5 hours, not much we can do. all i know is i can't wait! 70 days and yes i'm counting! and yes i will celebrate 46 days.

Lol and you would have to navigate your car around 1000's of people that don't want a wasted driver driving like a NASCAR driver to set up camp before they pass out or piss their pants.

Phish Watkins was so fast because it was way undersold and they started letting people in a day before the music started. Yes it was quick and easy but you can't compare it to a fest where basically everyone is showing up at the same time. Have some beers, cruise along, meet some people. Make the best of it.

we also went in 09 and are going again this year, they didn't seach our cars though. the reason for the wait was that their computers had gone down so they couldn't scan tickets.
