[Lazy Lightning]

I know that many of us enjoy gardening... I hope you all will feel free to add pictures of your gardens as they progress thru the season!

These photos are from early on in the season - since they were taken, the tulips have all blossomed in firey reds, oranges and yellows and the smoke tree has filled out in beautiful burgundy leaves!


Early in the season, everything is just starting to grow...



Cute little pansy faces!



These pansies have a tie-dye look to them!



Daffodil - I love the peach and white colours of this one!



The rock garden featuring stonecrop, creeping thyme, hens and chicks and a
smoke tree as well as two gifts from friends - a ceramic egg and a flying cow.

These flower buds will become the "smoke" on the smoke tree.

Thanks! It is a great balcony, lots of morning sun and open to the sky above... The veggie garden plater is at the opposite end, and I plan to deck the floor in cedar planking later on this summer so that it will have a real "cottage dock" look to it, plus it will be nicer to walk on with bare feet!

Thanks all!

I just deadheaded (I love that term! ) the first two tulips and a few of the pansies and noticed that I have three more tulips on their way up as well as a couple more daffs. I plan to add some lilies, poppies and herbs (lavender!) to the perennial garden sometime next week... Then there is the veggie garden to attend to... I think that next year I will try and start my veggies from seed.

Misty Mountain, can you tell me more about your organization? Do you guys have a website I can check out?

I picked up some day lilies and poppies this weekend, as well as some herbs and a juniper which I will plant tonight. These are some photos I snapped last week:


I usually deadhead the pansies as the blooms fade so that they will keep producing flowers. I missed this one tho, and ot went to seed.

The hens are starting to offshoot more chicks... Check out the wee one emerging between the leaves of the hen in he lower right corner of the photo.

SIOIOOOIAO, I've been patient with 2 crows this year. They ate a whole row of lettuce and spinich and the other day they opened a garbage can and tore shit up all over the place. Monday, I was at Cabela's and picked up a great horned owl decoy. Not sure if it will keep them away but tonight I replanted the spinich and planted grenn onions and carrots cuz I'm outta lettuce seed. I set horny up in the garden.

I have been very patient. Any recommendations are appreciated. My trigger finger is getting itchy though.

MeOmYo, yea, we're having some of the same troubles and the trigger finger is itchy! while not pleasing to look at, hanging plastic bags and aluminum pans around may deter them a bit.

Sweet pics guys... And some real nice surroundings to those gardens as well!

I got the veggies planted this weekend:

The veggie and herb garden is at the opposite end of the deck... It's a nice place to sit and read as the herbs perfum the air with sweet and spicy scents!




I planted golden tomatoes, red cherry tomatoes, eggplant, jalapenos, yellow sweet peppers, and cucumber for the veggie section. I might add some zucchini or strawberries this week.




The middle of the garden has basil bordering the veggie section, and some lavender and deep burgundy ornamental grass and a bit of room for some more plants.




The far end has lemon balm, a red Japanese maple, ferns, two kinds of oregano, lemon thyme and some mint. I might add some rosemary as well.




I put some bamboo poles in to stake out the veggies as they grow.




I planted some "roaring fire" coleus in smaller terrazzo planters to add some colour... I'm hoping to overwinter these plants indoors as I am in love with their bright pinky-orange leaves!!!

Blueberries are yummy. Gardening in the city can be fun. One tends to
get creative with limited space..as you have demonstrated.

I just received 12 Trinidadian Scorpion hot peppers. They are like Scotch bonnets. I cant wait to plant them.

My garden exploded with the hot humid weather this weekend - I'll try and post some pics this week.

My water garden is made up of a variety of water plants in a ceramic jar:



It is a small but tranquil world:

thanks DF! Brian built the deck last June actually! and we added the door from the kitchen out to it this past April.

The pink containers contain petunias we bought as part of a fund raiser for breast cancer research...i think

wow! i've always wanted to grow potatoes...does it require a lot of space?

hey pixie! we grow a lot of 'em - planted 75 lbs this year, ya gotta be able to rotate them on a 3 year program, meaning you should have 3 suitable spaces if you want to grow them every year... 12" apart in rows 2' apart. i've heard of folks growing them right in a bag of soil or an old garbage can full of dirt, making sure to have drainage holes. set your seeds (which is just a potato piece with at least 1 eye, hardened over) they're so amazing really, beautiful plant and flowers and you'll never wanna buy a potato again!!

Thanks I've collected a nice verity these past years. I have ton of 2006 bottles just waiting for a good time. Actually at this moment I have a case of wine waiting for me to pick up. I joined a few clubs and every so often for holidays they send promo deals. The cases for those deals usually go for around $80 with shipping for 12 bottles. Not a bad deal.

Thanks, it took some planning and a little cash to get the right set up for indoor gardening. It sucks that I only get sun in the morning. So I need the lights for noon on. It's helped significantly.

Gardening is really addicting especially if you grow something from seed. It's almost a pride thing knowing your took care of this plant from the beginning to the harvest time. Most of all the benefits are always nice. For me I'm looking forward to making some organic pasta sauce and eggplantparm.

Since moving to a townhouse in Rochester last May, I don't have the space for a garden anymore. I'd almost given up on the idea of having one until we get our house in 2012, but then I got the idea of building some boxes and seeing what happens with whatever I plant. So far, so good, and I live for the day I can get back out to the country. City living sucks so much ass it's not even funny.



Lettuce on the left, spinach on the right.



Peppers on the right, and I planted some onions in the deeper box on the left. We've got some tomatoes in pots and various herbs in others and so far, it's all looking pretty good. Not as fun as working the real earth, but it's better than nothing until the wife and I get the real plot of land.

You'll be amazed at what you can grow with container gardens, SYB... Just gotta make sure you keep 'em waterd tho b/c they dry out quickly. Best of luck with your veggies!!!
