And BTW, to everyone who has been on the Minaya bash wagon the last few years, you do realize that the team we're fielding now, this team of young fun talent, is almost all players picked by Minaya...right??

Maybe Omar was good at drafting young talent and player development, but a disaster when it came to dealing for veteran major leaguers.

Minaya was always an amazing scout, I never said differently. He was a shit GM & made a ton of shit deals for the Mets while in that position. And BTW, to everyone who has been on the Minaya bash wagon the last few years, you do realize that the team we're fielding now, this team of young fun talent, is almost all players picked by Minaya...right??

Are we supposed to forgive him for the following signings:
Luis Castillo, Oliver Perez (who signed on Feb 1 when no one else was even close to that number or years), Jason Bay, 2 years of nothing out of Pedro because he decided to go more years and more money, KRod, signed 47 year old Julio Franco to 2 year deal.
Letting Chad Braford and Darren Oliver leave.
Singing Guillermo Mota to two-year, $5 million contract.
Picking up the Moises Alou option.
How about the following poor trades?
Trading Heath Bell. If they kept him, they would have never had to sign KRod, and may the collapse year does not happen because we would have had a closer that year.
Same with Matt Lindstrom. Could have helped in the years of NO BULPEN.
Allowing Tony Bernzard to run wild.

...and the Marlins, who are all in this season, are already six games outta first
well, Jose Reyes is batting .224 with 3 RBI and 7 huge runs scored, putting him on pace for almost 60 runs this year! his .302 OBP is just 35 points lower than his BATTING avg. for all of last season as a Met.
if it wasn't for Albert Pujols stinking up Anaheim, i'd say Reyes is the biggest free-agent bust of the first month of 2012. we'll see if that changes over the course of the season...but then again, batting from the 2-hole could help. right?

no one's arguing those nuggets of info. just that the scouting dept. apparently did a nice job under Minaya, and we're starting to see the fruits of that labor now.

I agree, but if the Wilpons were not under water financially They would have made other big money signings and some of these players would not be in the major leagues right now because another overpriced player was taking up roster spots for these minors leaguers.
Sandy Alderson was forced down this road.
During Minaya regime how many minor leaguers made an impact other than Wright and Reyes? I am sure there is one or two over 7 or 8 years, but the point I am trying to make is rookies never had a chance under minaya and were mostly used as bargaining chips for trading for other over priced players.

The Mets minor-league cupboard is looking a bit stronger, particularly in St. Lucie, which is off to a scorching 21-4 start thanks to erstwhile prospect Wilmer Flores (.322) and Corey Vaughn (.279, six homers), the son of former major-league slugger Greg Vaughn. Also, Zach Wheeler (1.75 ERA, .198 batting-average against and 30 strikeouts in 25 2/3 innings) is looking capable of joining Matt Harvey and Jeurys Familia in the Triple-A rotation.
Only Wheeler is from the Alderson regime.

Been watching Cory Vaughn for a few years now...since he was playing in Brooklyn. Hope he's able to make it up the minor ranks and one day be in the bigs.

After Ruben Tejada suffered a strained right quadriceps yesterday, a Mets source told The Post that MRI exam results on the shortstop were “not good’’ and that a trip to the disabled list was “very likely” though not a given.

first pitch to wiggington should be in his ear for that elbow. take the guy out, fine, but an elbow / shoulder to the head? bitch. great comeback, well done!!
I agree. Where is the Cole Hamels old school thinking when you need it. Yeah I hit him, he hit my guy.

looked like he was trying to go wide, and then came at the head at the last minute. he followed through off balance well inside the plate.
I'm all for taking out the body, but going after the head only is bitch league. put it in his ear.
and nice slide by dicktorino on that dp ball too. he was in centerfield. SS should have come down with a cleat in his eye.
fucking phillies.

Wigginton was in the baseline but clearly going to be out. He shoved his elbow into Thole's head in hopes he'd drop the ball.
Hope both of 'em get plunked today!

I forgot about Victorino's "slide." What base were you going for, Shane? 2nd and a half? Total douche move, but we got the DP because of it, so thanks Shane!
Can't wait to see what happens tonight. Any bets on whos going to get drilled first?

Mets catcher Josh Thole sent back to New York for further evaluation
PHILADELPHIA – As expected, Mets catcher Josh Thole is headed to New York today to undergo further evaluations, as team doctors look to see if he has a concussion.
Thole sustained a serious blow to the head in Monday night’s victory over the Phillies. He felt dizzy as he walked off the field, with headaches arriving later.
With Thole out, Mike Nickeas figures to be the regular backstop. If Thole goes to the disabled list, the club would call up either Rob Johnson or Lucas May as the new backup.
