NOW WHY THE HELL CAN'T WE PLAY LIKE THIS AT AWAY GAMES!?!?!

They are built for new Shea?

It's the water?

Family and love?

:dunno:

But they'd better figure it out. They're pretty much the best team in baseball at home and the worst team in baseball on the road

game one of the doubleheader (bullshit day-night doubleheader, i may add) is underway at new Shea.

Mets up on a 2nd inning two-run shot from Blanco, scored himself and Wright. but Santana really being squeezed on the strike calls here, and he's walked the bases loaded with no outs, top 4th. this ought to be interesting. just keep them in the ballpark, Johan.

Johan walks (barely) Gwynn to lead off the 5th. Gwynn comes home on an Eckstein double, and Eckstein scores on a Gonzales single.

dammit. another weak effort at the plate, then a miracle - the Padres decide 99 pitches is enough for Latos, who's only given up one decent hit (the Blanco HR) through 6 innings, and pinch hit for him, which results in a double play! Santana responds by giving up a a walk and an RBI double, and can't finish the 7th as Feliciano comes in to mop up, starting with Adrian Gonzalez, who K's swinging.

San Diego 4-2 Mets, Lazy Mary.

yup. Nieve in to try and hold the Padres to the 2-run lead Johan staked 'em. then it's Heath Bell time, should we get there in a save situation.

Bell - 2-0 with 16 Saves (one against NYM), 35 K, 8 BB, 26 IP and a 1.34 ERA. not gonna be easy...but the top of the lineup to try.

Niese was a MONSTER last night. If he didn't give up that one double at the top of the 3rd inning, he'd have had himself a perfect game! Very happy to see him starting to come into his own. Both him and Pelfry. Home grown talent. Gotta love it!

Not only was it a great game by Niese, he used a different approach than last game. Used the curve early and often in last start and did not go to it a lot until middle of game. Starting to learn how to be a pitcher that other teams have to worry about.

While it's nice to be able to bump the road record to 11-18, I'm not celebrating anything with a sweep against Baltimore. ;) :funny1:

Let's see what we do against a starting to surge Cleveland and then the Yankees at home.

Way to find that touch of grey, Matt.

I hear what you're saying, but a sweep is still sweet. And its all the sweeter that it was a road series. Hoping this is the beginning of a much improved road record.

start by beating teams you SHOULD beat on the road. Cleveland has a 12-17 home record. gotta take 2 of 3 here, as well. the Yanks, well, we always seem to steal ONE at Yankee Stadium...

Seen on NYPost.com:

It really is an unfair advantage for the Mets to have arguably the most intelligent Manager and General Manager in major league baseball. When Fred Wilpon decided to pair Omar Minya with Jerry Manuel together, you would have thought that the commissioner would have stepped in immediately and blocked such a union just as the then commissioner did when the Yankees were trying to trade for ALL of the Oakland A's back in the 70's. It's somewhat amusing to sit here as a Mets fan and watch all of the so called "experts" bowing in shame for not realizing sooner that R.A. and/or Takahashi is just as good, if not better, then Roy Oswalt. I for one never saw that one coming when the Mets signed R.A. At his current pace he will, not only be a 15 game winner, but may just make the Hall of Fame. Okay, I can't do this anymore. I am just so tired of the Mets acting like they are so much smarter then everyone else. Oswalt was, is, and always will be leaps and bounds above R.A. and Hisanori. If I'm in the playoffs, I want Santana, Pelfrey and Oswalt. That's Roy Oswalt, not Oswald, as in Lee Harvey. Oh wait, now I get it, Jerry must have meant Lee Harvey not Roy. Then yes I agree 100%, R.A. and Taka-what's-his-name are just as good. Unless of course Lee Harvey is allowed to pitch from a school book depository then my money is on Lee Harvey to pitch a perfect game.

Normally I'd say interleague play should EABoD, but...

1. Braves play Tampa Bay (.635)
2. Mets (1.5 GB) play Cleveland (.403)
3. Phillies (3.5 GB) play Yankees (.635)

except it's always lopsided somewhere in comparison... it will never even itself out with the lopsided schedule that interleague creates with the created "rivalries"

also, what's with playing the yankees the same amount of games as you play the Padres? and let's play the padres twice in 2 weeks, with the same exact starters... this is another spot where MLB misses the mark in a big way. the schedule is a joke.

yeah, thy should blow off the rivalries. I can accept the interleague play, even though it fouls the National League's schedule by making the NL teams play :shudder: DH :shudder:

with the Yanks and Rays both whipping their NL East opponents, the mets are now just 1/2 game behind the Bravos and a full 3 games in front of the Phils. :clapping::clapping::clapping:
