congratulations to Andres Torres, for being the first Met injured this season. not even completing game 1 of 162 without having to halt play to replace your centerfielder is the Mets way.

on the bright side, it makes it that much easier for Terry Collins to give everyone on the roster a chance to play a little baseball on opening day. clearly he's intent on using at least 6 pitchers for a 9-inning game.

Not sure how I feel about the new radio guy. Was listening to first inning or two while I was out at lunch. I liked Wayne when he did analysis, his play by play was poor.

Worst is watching Phillies games and Tom McCarthy comes on. I always think, wait that voice, oh yeah. It always confuses me.

Nephew paid attention to the game all the way through. Got his name on the scoreboard via a birthday message (pic posted up on bookface). I think I got on TV as one of the idiots who carries on behind Bobby Ojeda and Chris Carlin after the game  .

It was a great game.

Duda looks good.
Bay is still trying what ever is he trys.
Pen looks good early.

They're still Los Mets. Wright turned Bay's first RBI into a double play.

At least the two galoots who collided were both big guys. Would have been ugly if Duda crushed a little center fielder.

it's game 3 of the season. There's bound to be a few base running blunders. You can be sure Collns will be addressing communication on the field between players before the next game.

i texted gram-man last night in the bottom of the 9th to share with him what i can now share with my fellow lolmets boardizens:

it's over.

as of Daniel Murphy's bloop single, i'm no longer 0-for-Citi Field :Phishfolk:

sec 513, row 3, seat 7 - and i had a gNats BP home run ripped out of my bare hands by a dude with a glove in the 5th row of the Left Field Landing...which i was somewhat grateful for, as it hurt like hell (i'd never barehanded one off the bat before...it's not as easy as Kevin Mitchell made it look), but that was somewhat disappointing, as if he wasn't behind me, i think i had it (pain and all)

Posted Image

as for Pelf, he was frustrating as always. he needs better command but when the ball's sinking, they're not going to hit it out of the park. and it was sinking, so we can't complain. he maee up for giving up 3 runs by doubling to start the comeback.

great energy, light crowd (a cold monday night in early April, understandable).

While Pelf was frustrating as usual I'll give him credit for battling through 5 2/3 (although has to finish that 6th inning with 2 outs and nobody on) after struggling early. The fact that he was throwing hard and didn't completely fall apart was somewhat encouraging.

No credit.

Maybe if he stopped worried about licking his hands he would be a better pitcher and be the next Brandon Webb (dominant sinker ball pitcher) they billed him as when he came up.

Going to try to avoid the scores/etc. during ther day so I can watch the rebroadcast tonight.

Nice article in the NY Times about Ralph Kiner.

It's hard to believe he was ever this young, and look at all those empty seats in the Polo Grounds.

One of my co-workers gave me a copy of the article (good read) and told me a story about being at a game when he was 12-13. He & a friend were walknig near the broadcast booth, the door flies open & Ralph Kiner comes flying out. He races to a nearby bar yelling "SCOTCH!!" The bartender puts a glass full of it in front of him, he downs it & races back into the booth.
