Nothing new here i don't think

changed dishwasher soap to 1/2 baking soda & 1/2 borax with white vinegar in the jet dry dispenser. I think it works well.

Dr. Bronners for a lot

1/2 vinegar 1/2 water for windows etc.

1:10 bleach/water ratio for multi purpose cleaner

Nate's lotions & lip balms

castille soap, borax & washing soda for laundry

hi mama kel...i was just reading about using dr bronners castile soap on wood floors - 1.5 teaspoons per gallon of water. i haven't tried it but will have to soon with snow+dogs (+husband) tromping in and out.

re: coconut oil - WOW! it is a remarkable product for so many things!! i use it for cooking and moisturizer and hair/scalp... just read that it can be used for antiperspirant/deodorant too! i just tried it for that purpose yesterday - i don't stink yet but i'll report back for stink updates.

CC - I've seen that clip.

The FDA is attempting to crack down on raw milk and cheese (both sold at Rawsome Foods). Never mind that raw milk has a better safety record than pasteurized milk does. It's all about the money, and big AgriBiz/Big Dairy has lobbied (weaseled) their way into the FDA and are trying to knock out the competition. It gets me really upset, because I see raw milk products as super foods that are essential for my health and that of my family. It's sad how corrupt our government is.

I am add liquid cholorphyll to my water at least once a day to help akaline my body.

It's supposed to help with the stink from the inside.

I don't have a major stink problem, but i haven't noticed a difference either way

after hearing me talk about ordering it for years, Erin finally just gave me Aloe and Almonds to try and she's right...it's awesome! like with all natural deodorants you need to reapply at least once throughout the day, but it really works and smells great. finally, the search for the perfect deodorant is over!

this thread hasn't been bumped in a while so i'm bumping for new ideas from everyone

i'm still using coconut oil for cleansing and moisturizing my face and body; love Aloe & Almonds deodorant (thanks E) and over the last year or two i've just about broken my Lush habit, though Jason recently found a bar of Karma shampoo in one of our travel bags and we're both enjoying that. been using Seventh Generation dish washer detergent but i think we'll start making our own after i re-read this thread and saw some suggestions for that.

so, one big question: we started making our own laundry detergent about a year ago and i have a question for those who make their own: what purpose does the bar soap serve? Borax i know is a whitener, and washing soap is for cleaning and brightening. we've been making our own using just those two items with a few drops of tea tree or lavender oil added, and it works fine on all but the worst messes. so why do most recipes call for bar soap too? i have a sensitivity to most bar soaps so we just skip it.

never made laundry detergent but I know one of the functions of soap is that it breaks down and entraps grease/fat molecules. grease/fat molecules are very "sticky" and soap is able to essentially surround it so that it can be carried away.

I'll look into the bar soap for you since I'm a fan of it. The stuff I get is from Jamaica and I can use it to shower with, wash my clothes.....even whites and they are white as a mofo. Oh and somehow it doesn't dry my skin or irritate me like most scented/harsh chemical soaps.

Also, you can make excellent cooking oils from coconuts but I'm not sure it's cost effective up here since our coconuts are sort of expensive.

I can't use bar soap on my skin...although this one works for my pits (tea tree oil helps eliminate stinkage)

I alternate conditioners. I use John Frieda's Brilliant Brunettes Illuminating, Aveda DAmage Repair, Ojon restoring (the dark brown one...it's not for sale all the time), and retread by Lush. Aragon oil worked for a while for me as a 'leave in' but then started making my hair clumpy and oily so I use Chi Silk Therapy
