he's not quite four-and-a-half and last night, kev took his training wheels off. it was epic! we were in the little park across the street, and there were lots of people there who stopped by with their kids walking home from somewhere. everyone was cheering and clapping, it was a big celebration. he had a couple of awesome crashes (like head on into a benchTHUD! when all was said and done, he was pretty much unscathed. somehow.

he was so proud of himself, excited and exuberant, he would ride until he bailed, and then run back to where he had started from to go again. and kev or i would bring the bike back to him. :funny1:

it helped him to have a destination in mind. his crowing achievement was when he went along a downhill slope, and wove through a crowd of people, and made it all the way to the far end of the park. he planned it that way. :clapping:

we went out again this afternoon. he is doing awesome. for the first time, he rode on the sidewalk, not just around the park. :clapping: he can go for really long stretches, he is able to gain speed after slowing down, to keep from toppling... i'm a very proud mommy.

we had fun in the park today, we went to his school and he rode around and then played there. another mom and her son, who is six, arrived, and the two boys were birds of a feather. action packed, dramatic and ready for fun. and his mom was great, we talked and laughed non-stop - which rarely happens to me, i tend to be shy in that kind of situation. so jeremy and i both made a friend today. :v:

tonight i am a proud proud mommy. jj mastered the monkey bars this evening! he has been trying so hard all summer, and tonight, for the first time, was able to swing from one bar to the next. he made it across 5 of the seven rungs on the play structure in the park across the street. yay, jj! such a big boy. he was so excited and proud of himself. :jamguy:
