Tonight I had a Belgian barley wine at my favourite local drinking establishment as a pre-dinner bevvy - 10.5% boozles, delicious toasted malt flavour, just delightful!

Highly recommended!!!

I'm drinking this tonight:

Founder's Imperial Stout 10.5%

This is without a doubt one of the best Russian Imperial stouts that exists. Seek it out immediately!!

Nice!

Big fan of the Double Chocolate, Fin Du Monde, and Tremens, the others I will have to try... They actually have the Dead Guy on their beer menu and I am sure I can seek out that Russian one.

The local brewery makes a delicious 10% barley wine but it's only available during Crhsitmas as it is brewed in January and then tanked 'till November. I have one bottle of it left and then it's all gone till winter rolls around again.

Just love the heavy tasty beers... Low on carbonation but high in flavour... None of the MGD or lite beer crap for me!!!

Ommegang is good stuff! My wife is from Cooperstown and we always swing by for a tour, free samples, and good deals. If my memory serves me right, I think the last time I was there they were $5 each. It's an absolutely beautiful brewery out in the country. Apparently, they put it there because they found great water. Also, apparently Cooperstown was a huge hops growing community back in the day, so that was part of why they put it there. In addition, i'm sure the land cost them about 10k.

Brooklyn has a Barley Wine called Monster that I think is like 15.5. Three Penny Taproom has all that strong beer on tap.

Loving all these great beer suggestions folks... I'll be on the look out for all of these when I hit up the specialized brewpubs and whatnot. I will also be on the lookout to pick some up next time I am Stateside - I loves me a good strong beer!

Keep 'em coming!

Have you been to the beer festival they have there?

I have not, but know people that go every year and work. I guess it's a camping type beer festival with some good bands, and food. Ya know, the whole enchilada. Never been to a campout beer fest, but that seems like the way to go. Why worry about where you're going and how you're getting there when lots of beer is involved?

Used to go to the beer fest in Burlington, which was cool because I lived right downtown.

No and just checked out their website and it takes place the same weekend as Vibes this year. Oh well, we will just have to bring some Ommegang to Vibes with us.

Loving all these great beer suggestions folks...I loves me a good strong beer!

just to clarify, my dearly loved chimay blue is not what i would call "strong"
it is NOT a wimpy beer, it is quite full-bodied and had a wonderful layered release of flavors, not too sweet and bold but not filling, or leaving a layer of crap on your tastebuds
if you prefer much of the same but a bit sweeter (think a hint of apricot but NOT *summery*) try the chimay red

one more recommendation - ok, two:

my favorite nut brown
Posted Image
any sam smith brew is bound to be yummy, i also love their ipa

strong and excellently-named

its my day off, i think i am gonna go grab a sierra (not strong but yummy!)

I like some of the stuff Flying Dog Brewery puts out. Granted, I'm not an connoisseur of beer quite yet, but I do enjoy the Double Dog Pale Ale. Had it for the first time out in CO...pretty sure its around 11% ABV and it's very hoppy. Seeing as Natural Ice Light seems to be the beer of choose around here, it's nice to have a change of pace and drink something that doesn't taste like piss water

I just bottled a homebrew barley wine this weekend. Should be ready for drinking in about a month.

Also, if you are into strong beers I would check out Pliny the Elder. Best IPA that I have ever had. Comes in at 8%.

7% is usually my cutoff. I rarely drink beers below that mark.
