I know I can't get them at the shoprite, or at least the one I went to this past weekend.

I need these for my bacon cure that I'd like to start this weekend. any ideas?

I never thought I'd need to shop for juniper berries, I usually just buy the gin.

thanks!!

jme,

The online reviews seem to indicate that Juniper Berries can be quite difficult to locate at your local grocers. The reviewers seemed satisfied with the purchase and were pleased overall.

hope this helps.

You can purchase them at grocery stores out west. I know Fred Meyer has them.

ok, so they have some PRIME shipping options, but i need to buy a decade worth of berries. this is dumb.

Anyone know anything else to do with Juniper berries aside from curing bacon? I'm sure they aren't NEEDED, but if Ruhlman uses them, I'm gonna use them too.

I'm going to visit some local joints and see what they have to say.

Let me know if I can help you. I live in the land of the juniper tree, though I'm sure the berries are to be picked a certain time of year.. I was just out hiking last weekend and they seemed dry, not sure if that's how you want them

Make gin!

I have used them before in the brine for a turkey on the smoker. Bought them years ago at a supermarket. Spice Island brand I believe. Check a few grocery stores and maybe a gormet food store if there is one in your area. I've seen them in a few recipies from time to time...none I can think of right now.

that's the extent i think for my use... turkey brines, bacon cures, nmaybe a chicken brine, as well... If this comes out good I'm guessing that I'll have some demand from friends and family to keep at it... so that's good i guess.

I'm gonna go hit the smaller food shops, and a different grocery chain before I order online.

I see them growing everywhere, maybe you can just pick some, or are the ornamental junipers unsuitable for cooking?

Find a health food store, co-op, Whole Foods, or other establishment that has a good bulk spice selection. I know the co-op up near me has heady organic juniper berries.

So I take it you don't want to take me up on my offer to walk out into the desert behind by house and gather berries for you?

This place is around the corner from me, http://www.herbstorenm.com - call and if they carry I'd be happy to pick up and ship if they wont.
