patiently waiting for the cold weather to break.  i can't finish the finish until it warms up.  once the finish is done, it won't take more than a day to put back together and play.

i stopped counting.  since i'm using spray-on finish, it's hard to say.  the benefit of nitrocellulose lacquer is that it melts into previous applications.  in essence, i'm done now, but your brother has a point.  right now i'm trying to fill just a couple of tiny spots, though they are fully finished in every other respect.

There were a couple of unexpected twists and turns on the way to completion.

As I was getting ready to spray on the final layer of finish before buffing and polishing, I dusted off the guitar as I have since starting the build; wipe it with a cloth and use compressed air to get dust out of places the cloth doesn't reach.  Except I didn't realize that the compressor was set at 120psi and not 60psi as it had been.

Part of the back of the guitar blew off as a result.  Ka-boom!

But...if we can build it...we can fix it.

After milling the back level, she needed to be patched.  For that poplar, black walnut and purple heart were used as a laminated fix.

Once fitted flush and finished/re-finished, it was time to re-assemble and re-wire the rest of the pieces.  For pick-ups, I chose to use a pair of Lollar P-90's rather than the initially considered Seymour Duncan P-rail humbuckers.

Once together, it still needed some tweaking; both the nut and the bridge needed to be lowered, and a couple of frets needed to be filed a few thousandths on an inch due to fret buzz.

Thanks, Jordan!

I asked Deadshow Dan to record video of me playing it during "Knocking on Heaven's door" last night...but the rest of the band was ready to go and that guitar was out of tune, so rather than tune it, I just swapped out and used another...forgetting that Dan was recording.

I was thinking I'll dust it off with compressed air as I have since I began the project. ;)

Almost scored a #3 on Saturday, but forgetting the song was being recorded to video, I switched, at the last minute, to a different guitar.
