I had the opportunity to photograph Guns N' Roses (or Axl N' Friends if you wish) at Webster Hall this past week.
It was a pretty exciting evening, unfortunately since Axl is known to hate photographers and they were shooting video of the event, it was a stealth shoot from the crowd. Still I think it went really well and the show itself was a lot of fun :) . Also Greg from BuzzUniverse was there as well and did a great writeup on the evening http://www.glidemaga...s-webster-hall/

For the third straight year I was fortunate enough to shoot the Tibet House XXII Annual Benefit. Unfortunately this year was a little lacking in the huge stars of years past, still its an interesting shoot, standing at the back of Carnegie Hall with a $10,000 400 2.8 lens. When you're shooting from that far away its more like birdwatching than concert photography. The big acts this year were Lou Reed and Rahzel and the smile on Rahzel's face when cheering for Lou was really incredible...

A few shots from this past Saturday night at Brooklyn Bowl with P-Groove. P-Groove encored with Dawes, "A Little Bit of Everything" in honor of Chris Cartelli ... it was a lovely moment (although the young fans around me, didn't seem to quite appreciate it)

A cool little shoutout to an ex-boardie on jambands.com

Perpetual Groove returned to New York’s Brooklyn Bowl earlier this evening for a sold out show. Though the Georgia-based group has headlined the room before, this is the first time the band’s recently reformed classic lineup has appeared at the venue. During their encore, the band honored Give Us The Money Lebowski guitarist Chris Cartelli with a cover of Dawes’s “A Little Bit of Everything.” Cartelli—who is also known for his work on the Awesometown festival—recently completed cancer treatments. Perpetual Groove will perform at Floyd, VA’s Sun Music Hall on March 29.

I had a chance to check out the New Multitudes a few weeks ago at Webster Hall. They're sort of a supergroup of friends that received access to the Woody Guthrie archives of poems and letters and decided to turn them into new songs.
Jim James of My Morning Jacket is one of the big names everyone knows, but the tour wasn't heavily promoted and the venue was probably 1/2 filled or so. Here's the review that ran on Hidden Track http://www.glidemaga...s-webster-hall/ and a few of the photos below.

I had a chance to photograph Goyte at Webster Hall a few weeks ago. For those who don't know, Goyte is huge in Australia right now and released a hit single, "Someone I Used to Know" that had been climbing the charts for quite a while http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8UVNT4wvIGY . He's also got an upcoming slot on Saturday Night Live this month. Unfortunately the show was super sold out and even getting there 20 minutes before the opener (Kimbra), still put me halfway back in the crowd.

I had a chance to see Jack White this past Friday night at Webster Hall.
http://www.guitarwor...ys-webster-hall
It was a great show and we even saw Jay-Z up in the balcony and Bob Gruen as we walked out (apparently Jude Law and Jim Carey were there as well)
The show was video taped for an internet broadcast and they were very firm on a no photograph policy. Unfortunately this meant I couldn't get the best shots, but I got a few.

We went to Lotus a couple of weeks ago at Irving Plaza. The band is kind of in a funny spot right now, where they're too big for Irving Plaza, but too small for Terminal 5. Either way they put on an excellent show with shout outs to the Beastie Boys on both nights.

Lets see, so I did my second wedding a few weeks ago. Ever since I did my first one (and it was a disaster) I've been hesitant to do a second one, but it was a very small wedding with a small budget, so I agreed. Carla was a huge help in posing people and I was able to focus on framing the shots and watching the lighting. I was happy with the shots and the bride was ecstatic about them :) . btw for those familiar with Boston the wedding took place in an area on the waterfront where a scene from the Departed was filmed.

A couple of weeks ago I had the pleasure of photographing the Annual SummerStage Gala Honoring The Music of Jimi Hendrix. Lots of musicians were there including Soulive, the Roots, Living Colour, Keller Williams, John Scofield, Wyclef Jean, and a few others. It was a beautiful evening and the highlight was Corey Glover of Living Colour jumping into the the crowd and onto the donor's tables to sing and dance right up close to the fans.

Earlier this Summer we got a chance to check out Alabama Shakes and Diamond Rugs at Central Park Summerstage. Alabama Shakes are an up and coming band, signed to Jack White's label and while we were at the show, they were talking about possibly having their music used in a new Scorsese or DeNiro movie. the Diamond Rugs are a supergroup made up of a bunch of indie bands and Los Lobos and whatnot, pretty good stuff. A couple of weeks ago we went to see My Morning Jacket at Williamsburg Park. It was an interesting place, more of a parking lot with blue concrete floors than a park, but the sound was good, even if the crowd at the back of the venue didn't seem to enjoy it all that much. I also shot Gaslight Anthem a bit ago at Webster Hall. It was a sold out show and the photo pit was as tiny as anything I'd ever seen (up to that point). Basically it was only one person wide, so by the time the headliners came on, I was the only one in the right side of the pit, while another woman shot from the left side and blocked the other (2) photographers out. This lead to a personal highlight as the lead singer shook hands with the front row and I was right underneath it. I actually missed it the first time, but a few minutes later he came back and did it again :)
Here's a few photographers shooting the same moment

Thanks guys. The owner of Webster Hall has been very good to me and allowed me entrance to any show. This has definitely helped with a few bands that then don't need to use a guest pass on me. Hopefully the two of us have been kicking around a few ideas and possibly doing something on a larger scale involving the venue, the musicians, and the building itself. Its all very exciting :)

A few quick shots from this weekend of our friend Mikey (and his family) who turned 1 a few weeks ago.
The fun part was these were taken at Bridgeport's own Seaside Park. Luckily we had a great sky and when the sun went behind the clouds,
I was able to add some on camera flash, to bring up the shadows, pop the eyes, and really bring the background to life.

I had a chance to photograph Michael Kiwanuka at Webster Hall last week. Really great up and coming singer out of England that was just won the BBC "Sound of 2012" poll back in January and now is one of the frontrunners for the Mercury Prize. On this night he also covered Jim Hendrix's “May This Be Love (Waterfall)” in honor of Jimi's death. Funny shooting moment, right before Michael took the stage, the stage manager ran over to me in the photo pit and said I wasn't allowed in for the first song, so I had to stand next to him on the stage and wait. It was weird, but whatever, so I used the opportunity to shoot from the stage instead and got a few nice shots in, before jumping back into the pit for songs 2-4 :)

I had a few minutes and just wanted to re-post the photos from this year's Gathering of the Vibes. At the time it was a bit stressful and dealing with the media contact should have gone a bit better, but we made the best of it and I remember coming out of the pit after Phil and Friends and being all jazzed up by the photos and angles I got of Jackie Greene.

A few odds and ends.
Brady Rymer used a couple of my shots in promoting his children's band

Also at the beginning of the month I had the opportunity to go to the Love for Levon concert at the Izod Center in the Meadowlands. Unfortunately photo passes for the actual concert were very scarce as they were videoing for a DVD release. However, the organizers created a “Red Carpet Event” before the show and had many of the artists come out and do interviews and pose for photos. I was a little frustrated at myself for not bringing my best gear, as I didn’t understand the situation, but being next to Jim James of My Morning Jacket, Mike Gordon, Grace Potter, Ray LaMontagne, Jakob Dylan, and Robert Randolph was pretty damn awesome. Afterwards I got to sit up in the fairly empty press seats and watch and photograph the show from there. In the end of the photos went viral with 100+ shares on Facebook and over 2,000 views…

Here’s a link to the Hidden Track article http://www.glidemagazine.com/hiddentrack/all-star-cast-of-musicians-show-love-for-levon/

and a couple of the photos

We did a couple of shoots over Thanksgiving weekend.
One with Carla's friend Jill and her newborn son.

Unfortunately I haven't kept up with this thread as much this year. However I thought I'd put a bunch of my favorite photos in here to mark the end of 2012.
I was fortunate enough to photograph a lot of musical moments. From the (2) Levon Helm tributes, Guns 'N Roses, Jack White, The Tibet House Concert, My Morning Jacket, Goyte, Alabama Shakes, Gary Clark Jr and Gaslight Anthem, as well as Gathering of the Vibes and Camp Bisco.

I also took more than a few landscape shots in and around New York City.

But the photos I was most proud of were the portraits, especially from the weddings (something I had been extremely hesitant to do)

Lets see...

A few shots from Jim James at Webster Hall

I had shot him a few months ago from up close at Music Hall of Williamsburg, so I decided to lay back and shoot from the balcony this time.
