day 2 of my new life was okay..... i think maybe there's a breaking in period. like shoes.

even nice shoes.

the president, Jim, was soooooo upset when he found out today! i've known him since high school, sometimes he even calls me by his daughter's name, who i went to school with and who also works there. he gave me just the huuuugest hug today. his wife is not well so i feel badly for giving him additional worry. the lady who told my boss didn't even tell her own people so i did a bit of that today - or had it done for me in some cases!

one lady caught me in the parking lot when i got back from lunch then someone else walked by, then someone else and if they didn't know we were telling them and we ended up with this huge group hug going on in the parking lot. it was sweet and i'm pretty lucky to work where i do. :-)

i'm tired and tomorrow is going to be one lonnnnng day so i'm off to bed soon. thanks for the PMs, the posts, the phone calls, the texts, the everything. thanks for being my friends, i love you.

my dad's doing pretty okay! he looked incredibly relieved to see me and to see that i wasn't some haggard mess. in 3 days' time!

he is NOT not considering cancelling their trip to africa unfortunately, but i'm trying. he seems to want to go to sloan with me, which is fine, but that probably would mess up his trip. gah.

but dinner was good, olga was good, he's doing okay.

i finally learned a year or two ago Carla, that i will ALWAYS be his youngest. nothing i can do can change that and i decided that it was worth it to me to see that from his point of view. it's the reason i now call him daily when i'm travelling - - he doesn't sleep for worrying about me.

they'd be gone for 11 or 12 days and 5 of them are 'on safari' with no phones, no faxes, no outside communication at all.

thank you everyone. today is the calmest day so far, that's for sure!!

my sister pointed out to me that my mom died just 2 months after her cancer diagnosis, so that is probably why my dad's freaking out a bit. i'd forgotten for the moment how quickly that happened and how he must have felt and what he would have thought, when he heard my news.
