so you're saying it's actually possible to invest in the volatility of the market? How does that work? If the volatility index is high is it worth more or is it worth more if the index is low? and how is that any different than playing roulette, or playing a numbers game or something?

Yeah I don't do those. Traders derisively call those guys "long-only" and we like to have our way with them.  Still, not nearly as bad as a "socially responsible fund." Jeez, just go burn your money why don't you.

I always thought that the "socially responsible funds" were ridiculous, I mean yeah it's all well and good to want social responsibility from companies but what does that have to do with investing?

yeah it was always buy and hold... and we were trying to explain 401K investment options to people who didn't even know what one was, fun times :funny1:

As bad a rap as these things get in the media, the existence of such things is why the US leads the world in innovative financial markets. The problem is that Mom and Pop are tempted to trade it just because it's there.  You can't blame a sharp knife for cutting a kid's fingers off when he plays with it.

<stands in the corner listening to the latest cuz I haven't been to this party in a long time>

Congrats Karen.

I also have Xanax JCS.  I needed it for a little while and then I haven't.  I very recently managed to have a conversation with my Xanax-need-instigator where I didn't want to cry or punch something after it was over.  Maybe I can throw the bottle out soon.

And Sarah, I know you put your own chin up and dealt but sending love anyway cuz I'm sure that was less than fun.

I've had the same pack of cigarettes in my car(s) since at least 2008. Not for smoking, really, just as a security blanket in case I want to do something less healthy.
