Led by psychology professor Philip Zimbardo, 12 students were turned into "prisoners" and 12 into "guards" for a two week experiment. The otherwise normal students took so zealously to their roles that the experiment had to be stopped after 6 days.

Seems like this might inform some of the occupy vs. police stuff.

Anyway, might interest some of you:

Throw in a pinch of Stanley Milgram, and we might just end up with a cake...

It certainly goes to show what happens when power is allotted over others.

I worked as a correctional officer for a few years (1978-82) and it certainly changed me. To the point where one of my friends grabbed me to tell me what an asshole I was becoming. I ended up getting along better with the inmates than a lot of the guards. There were a couple of guys who let the power go to their head, one took a pretty good beating from an inmate for continually treating him like shit. On the other hand I had inmates back me up to the point of offering to "take care" of one inmate who liked to get up in my face.

It was a totally shit job that I wouldn't recommend to my worst enemy

One of the worst, most stressful out there from what I've heard.

Was he unhappy when you quit the job, but stayed that way?

i had a neighbor who was a prison guard years ago, she had the most evil vibe i ever felt. there will be no rehabing in her prison.

Bullies suck, the in your face kind and the sneaky passive aggressive kind .. makes no difference.
