Looks good so far. I would not pay extra to see EOTO they are by far the worst professional "band" I have ever seen live

3 more national acts to announce. Great to be able to go to a fest in April. Got a hell of a deal on the room too. $69 king bed, 1.7 miles from the fest, with free shuttle. Thinking about flying, though worried it could be a nightmare with a 1 year old? We've never traveled quite this far for a fest with our baby, though I did do Telluride last year which was 8 hours. He was such a trooper there

Tyler used to go to this and always enjoyed it, but now that it's held in a parking lot rather than on the actual mountain, he's not so gung-ho on it.

It was never on a mountain. It was a nice grassy field with nice views of the mtns. I haven't been to the new location, but on the upside they now offer late night shows (extra $) inside the venue, which I believe is on site. to me, ill go for the loneup not the nature element attached to the event.

Yeah, the parking lot is what turned him off from going to the event once they moved it there. He said it was a great fest, and it used to be one of the best things about having to live in Phoenix, b/c let's face it - there really ain't much going for having to live in Phoenix!

I'm going to give it another shot this year. Check out the new site. I'll save my nature lover festival for Telluride!

Could not agree more. A friend was recently looking for recommendations of things to do in PHX. I was like, I recommend you DONT GO

You are so right. I am lucky I ended up in AZ for 5 years. I made the most of it, acted as NAU hiking club pres for 2 years, worked a youth conservation corp for 2 years. I've been lucky to have been to Havaupai 9 times, rafted the Grand for 25 consecutive days, hiked rim to rim, and rim to rim to rim, done Humpreys a dozen times, mtn biking Sedona, Paria Canyon, Canyon de Chelley... west clear creek, beaver creek, fossil creek, oak creek, it goes on.. northern AZ is stocked on magic. Wouldn't trade my time there for the world

We still aim to be down there at some point. And there will be lots of visits in-between then. It *is* a magical land!!! :)

Always wanted to visit Antelope Canyon, but there is still time enough. Havaupai looks amazing, too!

Tyler says the late-night is off the hook, and it's better than the day-time shows since they actually hold it inside the Compound Grill. Just be prepared for a bunch of tanked 50-somethings, it being PHX and all... I have never seen so many drunk folks in their 50's than I have at music events in PHX!

Oh, and apparently you should be prepared for there to be sod placed down on the parking lot... So at least it won't be on asphalt during the day.

Still getting used to a different kind of magic in NM. YEah, Anetlope Canyon is the bomb, just a shame they charge you $20+ a head to see it. I took my mom in there, who is NOT a hiker. Easy access, it was awesome for her. They literally drive you to the mouth of the canyon, then your mouth goes down to the sand in awe. It's SICK

One of my favorite hikes in Sedona - http://www.dreamsedo...reek-trail.html - it gets better the further you go. An out and back - if you go far enough, you may have to cross the creek, bring water shoes.

Another favorite in Sedona - http://www.greatsedo...hedralrock.html - Cathedral Rock - EPIC vortex  - dry hike, could be slightly crowded. Climbing up Cathedral rock into the saddles, great views, a little bit strenuous but totally worth it

Near Sedona - about 30 min south, FAR less people - http://www.arizonahi...ges/bell13.html - Wet Beaver Creek "Bell Trail" - 4 miles each way into a beautiful wilderness area with a stunning creek/ canyon walls

Grand Canyon - this is the secret spot - Shoshone Point. follow these directions - http://www.nps.gov/g...nt Brochure.pdf - nearly flat trail leading 45 minutes from parking area to the south rim through nicely wooded forest - to 270 degree view of CANYON, you are on a point, with the best view on the south rim. Ignore permit signs at trailhead, for non commercial use, you do NOT need a permit. See link for more on permit. Bottom line, ignore the sign

GRand Canyon - Bright Angel Trail - http://www.nps.gov/g...tAngelTrail.pdf - probably the most popular trail in the park, for good reason. Might be crowded, can be part of the fun seeing all the ridiculous tourists from around the world. Be prepared for snow on the rim!!! Bring waterproof boots, and wear rainpants. And don't slip!

Those should get you started, if you need more advice, let me know I have more ideas

Sweet! It is a gorgeous region! Northern AZ rocks - red rocks, that is!!! :funny1:

Pic from when I was down in AZ visiting Tyler last fall - gotta say that Southwest boy is loving the Northeast, tho!

He says we can go back to the SW once he gets tired of shovelling snow... I figure he's got 10 years of that in him. :funny1:

Yeah thats Cathedral Rock from the Airport Rd loop. We did Bell Rock Loop, Courthouse loop, Airport loop, and got about half way up the backside of Cathedral Rock. That Cathedral Rock hike was really rough in the snow. We did the Cathedral Rock vortex hike where you go in from the opposite side and pay $9 to park. At GC we only did Bright Angel. I am still trying to narrow all my pics down to 100 pic slideshow. I just haven't had any time since being back. I love Sedona and wish I could move out there:pimp:

I lived in Flagstaff for 5 years so it was literally my backyard. Did you do anything fun in Flag? Lots of great bars and live music.

Hit me with the slideshow when it comes together~!

Heady I am sure you have been to the Chapel of the Holy Cross in Sedona. We were amazed by the power of that place. wow. We never made it to Flagstaff except driving through because we wanted another day in Sedona. Also Oak Creek Brwery was great. Thier Nut Brown Ale might be one of my favs I have ever had

I've been there.. started an awful bike ride from there, narrow, technical and cactus everywhere!

Good call, sounds like you took full advantage of what Sedona had to offer. Now you have to go back in late spring or early fall to enjoy warmer temps and swimming in the creek! I know a few swimming holes out that way that are pretty incredible.

We used to camp, hike, and swim here all the time (Bell Trail, "the crack" at wet beaver creek)
