ummmmm, yeah. i need help! i did an investimigation, and came up with nothing. it showed subscribed threads, but it's empty, and i didn't see an option to put anything in it.

ok joe, you can start with right above your post it says 'thread tools' click it and then click subscribe... you can set it for whatever you want, i normally do no email. you can also go to userCP and on the left side click 'edit options' then partway down you see 'Default Thread Subscription Mode
When you post a new thread, or reply to a topic, you can choose to automatically add that thread to your list of subscribed threads, with the option to receive email notification of new replies to that thread.
Default Thread Subscription Mode: ' and click what you would like... mmmmkay? did that help???
