50 free was my race in high school. I eventually got to racing the 50 takingone breath, after 4 strokes out of the turn.
we closed every practice with 10 "hypoxic" 25s... dive from the deck and swim the 25 without breathing... then jog to the other end and do it again. I loved those... many others did not.
but I would drown if I did the 100 Fly.

after the season, talk to her coaches about their contacts and how they see her progressing. (expectations for next year, focusing her on specific events, strengths and weaknesses to address in school the off-season)
the coaches hold the key to getting them to the next level, and can shed some light on the college programs as well.
does she play other seasonal sports? or just swimming? does she swim with a club year round?

She wasn't DQ'd from the last event, so maybe there was a rule change.
Could be, but I can't see them changing that particular rule.
More likely that the judges were from the Waterbury group who are notorious for missing that kind of stuff.
What school was the meet at?

Foran in Milford?
Not sure if that's the New Haven or the Waterbury group's school.
Could be either.
But it's an easy rule to overlook, unless you go over the paperwork early (which is a part of the job) and even then coaches switch the line up around.
If she were my kid, I'd advise her to remind the coach that only 4 events are permissible so she stays honest.
