Kimber makes good tools.
I'd be interested in hearing what sort ammo you end up choosing for it.
break in is 500 rounds, Kimber recommends "hi-quality 230 gr ball ammo", I used a box of the cheapest federal ammo walmart sells at 1 am because I didn't have time to place any orders on line prior to this past weekends activities. I'll be ordering a few 1000 round cases to keep on hand as they go on sale. current contender is : 45 Auto/ ACP Remington UMC 230gr FMJ Target ammo for $360 a case shipped from SG Ammo. with the 3 inch barrel it doesn't appear to be too picky, not a lot of slide travel necessary but I will prolly stay with ball type ammo rather then hollow points to avoid any life threatening jamming issues, not that I would anticipate any - I would rather not have to

I bought a Rueger 10 22 long rifle.
Now I'm doing some accessory shopping. This is the choice I made to start target shooting again before moving on to purchasing something a little more hunt friendly.

accessory shopping as in scope, sling?
everyone should own a 10/22. great all around plinker that you won't need to take out a second mortgage to buy ammo for.
Been looking around for a .257 roberts. Hungover today and I like buying guns hungover. Makes the pain of the cost less hurtful

Mine is almost completely stock...I did put a different hammer in it which lightens the trigger pull a bit. And 25 round mags are kinda a must, IMO. The ones from Butler Creek have never done me wrong.

My "father-in-law" is an avid hunter and a damn fine marksman. i told him about all the accessories that can be fitted to the 10/22 and now I'm thinking of going full crazy on it. He didn't understand what i was saying until I showed it to him and he asked his local gun shop. "TASB!" He says to me. "This thing can have a 30 round banana clip, they have rail mounts for it...etc...etc."
So i think it's time to show ol' Amos just what this thing can be turned into.

there are tons and tons of mods for the 10/22 as it's the most popular .22 ever produced.

The mods are just mostly for show. Except a nice scope like the one he has on his black powder turkey rifle, which is what i plan to get for the 10/22.
it has a three inch raise off the rail mount that allows for use of the irons too. It's a really nice scope.

IMO, the best thing you can do for target shooting is ammo selection. not all ammo is made the same and a lot of the cheaper "bulk" ammo is made with less consistency. as little as a grain or two of powder difference between rounds will be the difference in same hole shooting and not. It's less of a problem with lower calibers because they do not shoot as far but it is still there.
Sage advice. Though I do think with a 10/22, that some of the Volquartsen (sp) or other trigger/hammer changes can be very helpful.
