Last 10 minutes review of Elysium:

Matt Damon in a robotic exoskelleton dies from the information in his head so that we can have immigration reform and Obamacare.

But just before he dies, he tells the ubercute brunette chick that he understands why the hippo let the meerkat ride on its back.

They aren't going to have sex because he's dead from the one thing which machines that can heal a blown off face and a little girl who is two breaths away from dying from leukemia can't heal. Bad luck for him, cuz the cute brunette is really cute.

China cat says Elysium is the best movie she's seen in like 3 years.

Sometimes I don't get how her brain works.

Other than annoying guys with (I'm assuming South African) accents implausibly getting their faces blown off and then healed by the aforementioned machines, I thought it was actually pretty good… I mean obvious social commentary notwithstanding, I liked it :)

All those noxious armpit fumes have killed off too many brain cells.

Before Sharknado Two comes out there is a new campy movie of the same vein.

Blood Lake: Attack of the Killer Lampreys

Also, true story, last week after the Easy All Stars show, a bunch of us went back to my place and we ended up watching Elysium.

One of my friend's friends said, and I hope I don't come off as pompous but come on, "Some people say there's social commentary in this movie, but I've seen it twice now and I don't know how they can relate space travel of the future to today."

I tried to explain to him that Elysium was a metaphor for the elite of the U.S. etc etc, but he astutely pointed out that it's not the U.S. because Los Angeles still exists in the future.

Bonus Points: He asked if he could come with us to Vibes this summer.  Camp Liftoff just earned mad street cred.

I'm sorry. I'll try to get to it soon.

But with the weather warming up, and living a few short miles from the Atlantic as I do, my time has been spent building a storm shelter ringed with these:

Seems Sharknado had an even stronger impact on me than I'd previously thought...

That did not escape any of us, fortunately.  So we're at least dealing with a human with a pulse.
