I have not posted, or even lurked much in the past few months.  My life has suddenly become overrun with sippy cups, pack-n-plays, toys strewn around the house and boundless love.  I will say the 2 am dance parties in her crib, her newly acquired harmonica skills and an affinity for the djembes are adding to the adventure.

Here are a few pics to show how our little brown bean is getting along...

Settling into 'home"...

A cool August morning...yes those are a pair of my socks as leg warmers.

Adjusting well to my cooking...everything from coffee-chipotle crusted venison to steamed green beans to jerk chicken.  She is a healthy eater.  This morning she had two eggs cooked in niter kibbeh (Ethiopian spiced, clarified butter) with a sprinkle of mitmita (berbere's spicier little brother) and a slice of toast.

Corn on the cob still works even with only four teeth.

She still needs a little practice with yogurt on a spoon.

she is making new friends...

Explored my new classroom...

And developing an understanding of our customs...by the way, that is MY Radio Flyer I dug out of my parents attic.

She is growing in leaps and bounds.

and has progressed from crawling to walking to running in what seems like a blink of the eye.

It is hard to believe that a year ago, we first saw this picture...

Now we have this sweet little one fully ingrained into our lives...

She's beautiful Jay.

Thanks for preserving her culture for her...I'm really touched by that gesture.

So beautifully precious!  I remember talking to you several vibes ago (Jude was a toddler) and the way you were with him made me think you'd be a great dad. I'm so happy it's now a reality.

Yeah, she is a trip.  It is also kind of fun working to craft your kid to be a little different from the rest...

Some quick examples:  as she learns animal sounds, she does not have the traditional "oink" and "moo".  She will trill when asked what the red squirrel says, hum for the bumblebee, hoo-hoooo for an owl "Daaa, Daaa, Daaa" for crows and more.  If you ask her what Mama or Daddy says, the reply is "I love ya!"

Her favorite books are any of the field guides she picks off our shelf.  She loves the moon (or "Mmn" as she says without opening her mouth) and will point it out wherever she finds it.

I usually clip my keys to my belt on my right hip.  The other day I tossed Mez some old keys and her first move was to try and put them on her hip.  She also wears her sunglasses on her neck more that on her eyes,  apparently because that is where my reading glasses usually are.

She eats green bean and carrots like there is no tomorrow and was gobbling down some chili the other day that MB said was right on the edge of HER spice tolerance.

Some days are tough though.  Today is the second day of deer season and I did not leave the house.  In with Mezzi all day (MB is taking a yoga instructor class in Rochester and took the car with the carseat instead of driving all those mile in my Tacoma) so it was me and the little one with Hullabaloo on Pandora from dawn until MB got in the door around 8 this evening.  13 hours of non-stop toddler is almost more than this old man can handle (okay we both got a 2 hour nap), but still...

I will keep you all in the loop as to how she is doing.  One thing I need to do is get her out to see more live music...we were in Sturbridge a few weeks ago and there was a one man band at the Hyland Orchard...I swear her harmonica playing was markedly different after she sat transfixed watching this guy play.
