Balls. They've all really, really sucked in the past 35 years. Really really.

I got nothing.

I like Bill Clinton, I think he did some great things for the country.
I also think he was a master politician (in the best sense).
Obama may also be a great political stratigist, but I think Bill was better.
Though I'm not as impressed with Obama's actions.

So if I have to pick a best of my life, I'll pick Bill.

Of note is also JFK. I'm not a JFK fanatic and really don't even know

very much about what he did as president. I think he may well have

been behind some really messed up shit. But, I do think he stood

up to great pressures and used his amazing political intellect to

keep us out of a nuclear war during the Cuban missile crisis. No

matter how that started and who was to blame, I'm pretty certain

he prevented nuclear war when it easily could have gone the other

way -- and that makes him a great president.

PS: I also thing Carter is a great man. I think he was a good man

in the presidency...but didn't have the political streak (read as

dirty hands) to play the game to get results.

He essentially started the vietnam war. Or at the very best, he didn't de-escalate our involvement.

I like Bill Clinton, I think he did some great things for the country.

Such as?

The way i remember it, Slick Willy gave us "free trade" agreements. (NAFTA)

Which is a terrible piece of legislation economically. (treaty rather)

He also repealed Glass-Steagel.  Which 99%ers blame for the 2007 "recession". And make it worse in the long run, he signed the commodities futures modernization act. Legalizing over the counter derivatives.

To add salt to the wound, he signed the homeowners act that actually (not the perceived version) helped pump the housing bubble that blew out in 2007.

Carter was arguably the only decent, halfway honest and well intentioned man to hold the office in my lifetime. I really like him. He was spectacularly bad at executing the Executive duties. Maybe that's because he's a good person, I dunno.

Much as it pains me to say it, out of a pool of bad choices, I think Slick prolly did the best job.

Worth noting..."best" doesn't necessarily mean good. Sometimes the best is just the least bad. :(

Fair enough. Except the budget surplus. Which is a myth.

I think every president has done some good things, even if overall they royally suck. Even the dipshit W. had a few token moments.

I would say that to name a 'best' president would be as the Beek pointed out - who did the least damage?

Actually in my lifetime it's probably Clinton but it's kind of hard to really compare presidents since there are so many other factors happening at the same time. But other than the opinions of an extremely loud and vocal minority I have generally noticed a better quality of life or at least a better trend in quality of life under the two presidents who were Democrats.  I know I know, both parties are totally the same etc. etc. but they're really not and it has been obvious in terms of the direction our country has taken over the decades I've been around.  And no I'm not going to provide hard data because I am just giving an opinion and thereby I don't need to back it up.
