The toothfairy accepts a note in place of the tooth.
My daughter's tooth came out during school and it got lost. We wrote a note and money was left under her pillow. The tooth was then found at school. My daughter's friend traded her a frosted cookie for the tooth so that she could go put it under her pillow for some money.
The tooth came home the next day as the friend's Mom would not let her try and trick the toothfairy and was told to return the tooth to it's owner. My kid made out pretty well as she got the money and then the frosted cookie in the trade.

Wow. Getting big. I have pictures of when i met him and got to hold baby Jude.
Mine lose their teeth late and stopped caring about the tooth fairy just a few teeth in. We went to the orthodontist today and I had to explain that Emily (15) has 12 year molars that are pushing into the teeth in front of them and catching on the brackets, growing sideways and there isn't room for them to come up (her dentist showed me this on an x-ray). The orthodontist tried to correct me and suggest that I meant her wisdom teeth. I reminded them that she lost her last baby tooth (an incisor) just a few months ago. Poor thing had some plastic spacers wedged into her teeth today.
