I'm sure I'll have nicer things to say about tonight and tomorrow.   Kind of hard not to.

link.png Friday, 08/02/2013
Bill Graham Civic Auditorium, San Francisco, CA

Set 1: Free, Meat, The Oh Kee Pa Ceremony > AC/DC Bag > Vultures, Roggae, Sand, When the Circus Comes, Babylon Baby, Reba, Halfway to the Moon > Golgi Apparatus

Set 2: Punch You In the Eye > Down with Disease[1] > Prince Caspian[1] > Farmhouse > Seven Below > Theme From the Bottom > Harry Hood > Stealing Time From the Faulty Plan > The Squirming Coil

Encore: Walls of the Cave

[1] Unfinished

Notes: This show was officially webcast via LivePhish. Harry Hood included a Dixie teases by Trey. Prince Caspian and Down With Disease were unfinished.

Both sets started out strong and then wanked their way into shockingly boring sleepytime music. I seriously thought Bob Weir was going to spring out from backstage to take over band leadership.  The encore was super strong, but not enough to stop floods of fans from escaping early with huge yawns on their faces after that really fucking terrible show.

C'mon guys, step it up a notch (or five) tonight.

Perhaps we should adjust our expectations and not expect the Phish from the mid-nineties?

My grade of "D+" is only because I'm in a great mood and feeling nice today.

I'll keep an open mind on the next two nights. There's always one stinker in every run.

There was, of course, the "happy happy" crowd who thought the show was great. But when you think every rock you trip over is great your opinion ain't worth shit. Every one of the more discriminating fans I know agreed with me.

yeah besides Vultures and Sand the first set looks pretty poo poo.  I can see how the second set could be boring but if played well could be quite blissful.  I am a sucker for Farmhouse I know it's cheesy as fuck but it brings me back to the summer of 00 in the Adirondacks.  We played that album almost every night while drinking under the stars.  :pimp:

And apparently the Richard Simmons workout look with 80s-style headband is in among 20-something dudes. God help us all.

Maybe I'll check it out tonight. They've been doggin' it most of the tour. I'd rather see trey band and page w/the meter men.

It's pretty mellow but it's one of those albums that has a lot of memories attached to it.  Ahhhhh to be 22 and drinking beer under the stars with friends.

I like the looks of a Free opener, and I'd hope that Stealing Time > Squirming Coil would be a good closing combo.

I still have nightmares about the crowd stank from last year. I have a very sensitive nose and just couldn't stand the intensity of that crowd B.O.  So I'm gonna have to pass on Jerry Day.  I wish it wasn't so but there ya go.

Bill Graham Civic Auditorium, San Francisco, CA

Set 1: Crowd Control, Divided Sky > Wilson, Foam, Halley's Comet > My Soul, Ya Mar, Army of One, Taste, Gumbo > Train Song, Pebbles and Marbles

Set 2: Energy > Runaway Jim[1] > Carini > The Wedge, Light -> David Bowie, Silent in the Morning > Meatstick[2] > Quinn the Eskimo, You Enjoy Myself

Encore: Sanity, Bold As Love

[1] Unfinished.
[2] Japanese lyrics.

Notes: This show was officially webcast via LivePhish.com. Ya Mar contained a London Bridge Is Falling Down tease from Trey. After Ya Mar, Page said that Trey played his entire solo on one string. Train Song was last played on August 13, 2010 (120 shows). Runaway Jim was unfinished. Meatstick contained Japanese lyrics and was teased in YEM.

Strong show. Different in feel from Sat night with Phish doing a lot of what Phish does so well, goofiness, trampolining, lots of love for the crowd from Trey. DAVID BOWIE (you have to shout it out loud at people all night long after they play it). It was strong enough so I could tolerate that stupid Meatstick crap in the mix.  Oh and what's your fee to drive me to Firenze? There's no feet washing involved, Trey told me so at Oswego.

B+, because there can only be one "A" per run.
