Atticus is 9 and was diagnosed with feline Irritable Bowel Disease about 4 years ago, after he lost over 4 pounds and had a lot of vomiting and diarrhea. He has since been on prednisone to alleviate his symptoms, which so far has worked fairly well. Unfortunately he has started to lose weight again...2 pounds in 6 months, which for a 12 pound kitty is a lot.
So we're going to try b-12 shots for a few weeks and hopefully that will induce him to gain a little weight.
Could we please get some vibes for our little man? He's a total mama's boy.

Great news..we've been feeding him a lot of extra canned food and he put on a pound in the last week! 
We also learned how to give him the shots so he'll get one once a week for the next 5 weeks, and then we'll reassess.

giving shots to a cat who doesn't want them is a rodeo...1st try was unsuccessful..we got the needle in but were unable to press the plunger before he squirmed away (and I was HOLDING him down). he's now hiding under the bed. 
we'll have to try again when he's settled down.

Ah, the old squirming trick eh? Clever kitteh 
I hold Sage by the scruff of her neck when she is getting shots and this seems to work pretty well. This way the cat can't 'slink and squirm' as much. Have you tried that?

you obviously haven't met my boy
even the vet is amazed by how squirmy he is when he's upset.
we're going to try having chase hold him on the next try.

we've been taking him to the vet for the vet techs to do the shots. they only charge $5 and it's better than having him hide from us for 6 hours after each attempt, and then run away when we approach him. 
he's maintained his weight so far but yesterday I saw more blood in his stool (not unusual for him but definitely not something I want to be seeing).

we had a great vet visit yesterday the vet says he looks fantastic and she's really pleased with his progress. he put on a few more ounces and is now almost 11 pounds. his coat looks great and she said his intestines feel good and not as gassy as before. So we're going to continue the once a month B12 shots for now and see how he does.
and finch lost a pound, but that was good because she was getting a little too chunky. all of their bloodwork came back fine too.

6 month checkup for both tonight and the vet says they look great! Atticus is now 11lbs 2 oz (although I think some of that may be poop weight since he hasn't pooped yet today) and Finch put back on the weight that she lost, but she is still looking good.
