As we mark the 40th anniversary of the Pentagon Papers' publication, the Obama administration is doggedly trying to charge Julian Assange and WikiLeaks with conspiracy to commit espionage. Now, as then, it amounts to a misguided effort to criminalize journalism

WikiLeaks is hardly journalism. Whistleblowing, maybe. But it is not journalism.
whistleblowing...something obama promised to protect during his campaign
still, wikileaks is a better source of news than any of the mainstream outlets and most of the "alternatives"...nothing but facts...i and many others consider their work journalism
this president has no spine, and he is a liar...and if you wanna tell me his hands are tied or that there's things he can't do anything about, that is the dead wrong way to look at it...when he promised to protect whistleblowers, he lied...if there is an element inside that has more power and influence than him, then he's too spineless to say so

I really for the life of me can't figure out why people like spy games and top secret secrets and secret wars and imperial presidencies.
Wikileaks offers hard facts, just like the pentagon papers were hard facts that the govt tried to cover up. Lies, cover-ups, secrets, etc that lead to wars, imperial power plays, strong arming, war crimes, diplomatic bad behavior...
This is the stuff this country should not stand for at all.

I'm no fan of Obama and tend to not trust our government at all. I just wanted to make the distinction that WikiLeaks is not journalism. But I do agree that the stuff our government pulls on a regular basis is stuff we should not tolerate. The more all this stuff goes on, the more I'm inclined to root for a revolution. We're so far gone as a nation that "voting for change" is no longer effective enough. We need radical change. We need to get their attention.
