I try not to ask much of the board, but I figured I'd throw this out to you all...I don't have any other options at this point.

The bottom line is that my school is withholding my paperwork (diploma and transcripts) because of an internal clerical error that they won't stand behind. I've fought a good fight, but it's hard to fight alone against a large corporation. I'm trying to crowd fund the $2000 balance so I can proceed to grad school and keep this off my credit report.

In return I'm going to do volunteer and charitable work here in Colorado. Sure I could have and would have done it anyway, but I figured a tie in to this would be a good motivator and goal for me.

If you can help at all it would be appreciated, if anyone would be willing to spread the word via social media that would be great too.

They didn't process my financial aid paperwork properly after I sent it in. Tax returns and independent verification worksheets. This was back in January/February. I caught it after I graduated and was sent an email saying my paperwork was being withheld.

And this is not something they are willing to fix?

I have a 32" that my parents got us when we moved in that's almost 6 years old. It's one of two TVs in the house. We have the most basic cable possible. Trust me, I live very frugally. Two used cars, shop at thrift stores, try to stretch as much as possible.

No. They're finding every reason not to. Unfortunately this is a common issue. I've been through arbitration and mediation and nothing over the last month and a half.

I will uncharacteristically bite my tongue and simply suggest that you might want to change the amount of hours you're willing to volunteer from "at least 20" to "at least 200." Offering to put in an hour for every $100 isn't going to get you many donations from people on the fence.

So true.  I'm sure all of us struggle financially at times (Lord knows I do).  But I know how hard Josh has worked to get this degree and this is a horrible kick in the nuts for him, especially since its not his fault & the folks responsible won't fix their error and are now basically holding his future hostage.

aw, josh, i'd love to help if i could. that really stinks.

i never received my official "diploma" from college (Johnson & Wales University) because my roommate punched a hole in the bathroom door in our dorm room. And they expected me to pay for it. I wasn't planning on continuing my education, so I didn't need my transcripts and i certainly don't need the piece of paper, so I basically told them to go to hell.

you should immediately sue them, and hugely. like the amount of their trust fund. you will find a lawyer to do this for free sooner than finding $2,000.

Not a bad thought Bill, but I want to go to grad school more than I want to sue and wait indefinitely. Does that make me a bad American?

Maybe after all this I'll contact legal aid.

Some sort of funky 3D tattoo for the 7 or 8.

And change "Tasty" to "Juicy"

But you know we're going to require photographic evidence.  Not that I'm looking forward to gazing upon your hairy, dick-tattooed ass but you can understand the need for proof, right?
