Sitting and chilling on a blanket—or playmats?

The subject of blankets came up and my wife asked “instead of a blanket, why don’t we just bring a few of those square foam playmats?” I looked at her and said “...” Then I collected my thoughts and said “...” I tried again, but still nothing came out. Finally, I got out a bewildered “I have no idea why not.”

It sounds like a great idea. Pretty waterproof (if the ground is muddy/soaked), comfy as all hell to dance on, bright and colourful, easy to set up, rugged, safe and easy to carry. I can't think of a downside.

Any thoughts? Things we’ve overlooked? Or can we leave our trusty—but dull—green blanket at home and dance on a pixelated rainbow?

Seen them used in tents for floors, not sure how tight they connect to hold up with dancing, could always toss a blanket over it too ;)

I like the idea. Good soft padding, to avoid sticks and shit like that, or who knows what on the ground, that may soak through a towel. Dunno about dancing on it though, I'd just use it for sitting/napping.

We use 'em at Banned Camp.  All sorts of uses.  As a front porch area in front of the tent, in case of rain/mud, Under the EZUP, keeps little bugs from biting your ankles, sitting on the field, softer/dryer than a towel...

Sounds great then!

We have a few for inside the tent, so they were on the mind. They zip together like happy, oversized zippers, so keeping them together shouldn't be a problem. Maybe a blanket on top if necessary, but the bright colours are fun in themselves.

Success!

Brought a lot to Clearwater. A few went and stayed in our tent next to the mattress (my hitchhiking/roughing it days are long gone), which was great, a few went in the vestibule, making diaper changes and quick tent visits comfy on our knees, and we took a handful to the lawn.

They were comfortable enough that we never used our chairs. It rained the night before (and drizzled a bit Sat night) so the grass was pretty wet when we got there--but nothing leaked through. They stayed together without a problem and made for a great dance space. At the end of the night they were easy to pack and take back to the campsite. Success!!!

BJs has em, but not cheap.  $30 for 16 sqft.  I think I paid $15 last year at Christmas Tree shops.

Don't forget ebay--there are tons on there. We had most sitting around for the house anyway, so it was an easy add.

Target has em for $26

Christmas Tree is hit or miss.  They don't carry the same items for very long.
