I went to see DSO at the Brooklyn Bowl a few weeks ago, and there was this old dude who wouldn't stop screaming... It was super obnoxious.

It was pretty much like this:

I'm sorry, brah, but the way you express your enjoyment for the music is completely ruining my experience...

Seriously, people paid good money to see the band, not to hear you squeal like a gutted pig.

I don't care how people show their enjoyment as long as it's between songs... during songs I have a strong inclination to tell people to STFU

It's a Dead show... Everybody's supposed to be mellow... I don't want to be a dick about it. I should try just doing back in their face sometimes...

Yes. If you need help, I have a crazy loud set of pipes. I'll stand right behind them and blow their eardrums out.

I regularly do this to loud, annoying people. I will make it obvious that I'm mocking their loud rudeness, but just slightly obvious, to get their attention. And I'll act like no big deal. Just loud and annoying. It's quite fun, actually.

I understand the desire to not have someone scream all the time, but I also don't get some people's need for people to be absolutely quiet.  The whole shut the fuck up the band is playing attitude.  It is a rock concert.

It's the all the time screamers that get to me.

Believe me, I understand the occasional exultation when the stars align and the song hits you just right and there's a little breeze, and you just took a swill of  brahmigos beer. Hell yeah you gotta shout it out.

But try and watch that Shakedown video in the OP and tell me that's not way excessive...

I think there's a balance. If I'm banging out to Soundgarden, I'm screaming my brains out. If I'm at a more chill locale, like the above vid, I yell at the appropriate times. I've been to my share of concerts, and I've noticed that people (like the screamer he's bitching about) will sometimes intentionally wait until no other noise is being made, just to be heard.

IMHO, go with whatever the crowd is doing. If you're the only fool being obnoxious, then you're being obnoxious. If everyone is screaming brains out, then scream your brains out.

And I wouldn't call Shakedown Street a "rock" concert.

FREEEEEBBBBIIIIIIIIRRRRRRRRRrrrrrddddd!!!!!

Sorry.

I also hate people who think Drums/Space is intermission and jabber away at full volume. If you're not into it, fine. I don't always catch what they're doing but I patiently--and quietly--wait for it to find me or them to find their song. I don't care if you want to hit the bathrooms or get a drink. But please ... either shut the hell up or use your quiet voice.

One of my favourite musical paradoxes: Without asinine screamers we wouldn't have The Wall.
