I explored my feminine side this holiday weekend and planted a nice, (hopefully) pretty and, crosses fingers, smelly herb garden on my back patio. The idea is to encourage me to continue my yoga practice throughout the summer/fall while I'm training. I figure having somewhere nice and peaceful to immediately enjoy when I return from my long workouts would beneficial and it's something to get lost in, like a zen garden kinda. We'll see.

I have two smallish hanging pots leftover. Can anyone recommend an easy-found, cheap, nicely-scented blooming plant that roots in shallow-ish soil and is in a well-lit (bright) place? Something pretty.

I'll post pictures to my blog eventually once it all blooms (providing it all blooms).

That sounds great! We have a place like that in our farm collective with the same idea.

How about a hydrangea? I don't know if it smells but it likes sun and should be easy to plant. Or maybe some peonies too...

Lilacs smell delicious and are easy to grow - you can get "ever-blooming" varieties that flower all summer long.

Oh. My. God. Strawberries! YES!! Do they come in those hanging basket thingees?

I also learned tonight that I have two new nests in my yoga garden in amongst the ivy around my rails. Miso and the momma birds just stare down one another all day. They've also gotten used enough to me that I can still go out and do my yoga without them flying away. It's really kinda cool.

I'm growing strawberries this year for the first time ever - we already have some flowers turing to fruit - they are beautiful plants and yummy ta boot!

Cool that you have birds inhabiting your yoga garden - that's a good sign for sure!

Oh, and jasmine is really scent-sational as well! It can act as a privacy screen as well as perfuming the air.

Careful of any mint you plant- it spreads like CRAZY and is very difficult to contain and/or get rid of.

Yup so to avoid it bury coffee cans in the dirt and then plant in there keeps the roots contained
