Brooklyn’s Palmetto Park has been renamed Adam Yauch Park in honor of the late Beastie Boy, who passed away a year ago. The park, located in the southern part of the Brooklyn Heights neighborhood, where Yauch, who was also known by the stage name "MCA", grew up. Yauch passed away on May 4, 2012 at the age of 47, after a three-year battle with cancer. He helped found the Beastie Boys back in 1979.

Surviving Beastie Boys Adam Horowitz ("Ad-Rock") and Michael Diamond ("Mike D") joined Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz and other officials at the park - located at Columbia St. and Atlantic Ave. - for a ceremony honoring Yauch today at 11am.
