Some Thoughts on the IMF, Global Injustice, and a Stranger on a Train By Rebecca Solnit

How can I tell a story we already know too well? Her name was Africa. His was France. He colonized her, exploited her, silenced her, and even decades after it was supposed to have ended, still acted with a high hand in resolving her affairs in places like C

Nice pre-empt

It is lengthy, but worth a read. I think we all know - or should know - that the rich exploit the poor. The IMF is one more link in the chain of this under the guise of giving short-term "aid" to poor countries in exchange for giving up their long-term natural resource wealth to multi-nationals.

The whole DSK thing seems a little bizarre and there are surely credible theories as to why someone would want him taken down (i.e., potential next president of France). I'm not going to lose sleep over it one way or the other. If he ends up being guilty, let justice be served. I just hope there is an appropriate amount of resources allocated to the prosecution to ensure a "fair" investigation and trial, if that is even possible.

Absolutely. The case of DSK is not even on my radar. What i think Rebecca managed to do in this lengthy, yet explosive column, is run a sword through the heart of the social/economic issue at large within the class war, comparing the DSK case along side.
She also managed to do it eloquently, tastefully and with unshakeable wit.
