Packing the final bags.

We will be meeting Sweet M on Saturday!  Crazy, after an almost 3 year process, we are finally going  to actually touch, smell, kiss and hold our little girl (who will be 10 months old at the end of April.)  Then say good bye for a month of two until we get our Embassy date and head back to bring her home.  It will be close, but with luck we will have her home for her first birthday.

We have a suitcase full of donations for the orphanage and I just scored 22 new soccer balls on eBay (that will be here for our second trip). As we travel around the Addis Ababa and to Woliso, to meet the birth family, we can give out bright blue soccer balls to the kids along the way  I shared with the seller what my plans are for the balls and he included four new pairs of soccer shoes and socks for us to give out on our travels.  I'm really kind of psyched to see the expression on some of these kids faces when their old tied-up ball of rag and twine is replaced by an brand new ball.  Not to mention the few that will get some new shoes.

Cool beans that you are bringing new balls!  I generally bring them and school supplies when I visit rural Jamaica.  Nothing like hanging with the kids and asking why they are not playing soccer-no ball=problem fixed.  If you get bored google around for "bounce across jamaica" https://www.facebook...8856?sk=photos  they might be a good source if you continue to bring balls in your travels.

Oh and congrats!

Finally finished packing...It was a long day.  The marking period ends Friday, so I had to complete all my grading, enter grades (not due until Tuesday, but we will have very limited internet in Addis) and come up with a weeks worth of lesson plans for three different classes (75 minute blocks and a pretty rough bunch of kids).  I'm beat.  It's after midnight now and we will be heading to the airport by 4 am for our 5:30 flight.  Time for about 3 hours of sleep.  I'm sure I will catch up on the 14 hours across the Atlantic, then across Africa!

Thanks for all the well wishes.

I will check in if I can get find access to the interweb.

I wonder how the 22 soccer balls are packed, or if they were shipped ahead of time.   :dunno:

Although the balls themselves don't weigh that much, there's still lots of dimensional weight there.
