I have been doing vinyasa style for 3 years now. My friend in San Diego suggested I try Ashtanga...anyone that can give me some insight?

it's a lot more, um, hard? not hard... but, um, how shall i describe it, harder edges than vinyasa. i have described it as "militaristic" but that is kind of harsh

give it a try and see what you think :)

Ashatanga is one of the 3 'original' yogas. Iyangar was on ther one wo 'birthed' his own yoga. That's the typical vinyassa type. I am scared of Ashtanga, it is heavy in the upper body. It's kinda like Bikram where they have a set sequence you do each time.

Yep, almost all of my yoga is from YouTube. It's nice because I'm a cheapskate, I can do it whenever I choose (yeah, insomniac Sunday mornings, I'm looking at you...), and I can try new and funky types of yoga without feeling like a moron, or like I wasted money if I don't like it.

kundalini is very different and i've never done a class, just a couple of dvds and on-line. it can be very active, with a lot of movement, to very subtle. the very active dvd i have is an amazing workout! i haven't done it in years. i think i'm going to revisit it soon though now that i'm getting strong again through doing all this hatha/vinyasa.
