Has anybody tried this and had success? I have the seeds, and I'm going to do it this year. (Corn > beans > squash in a circle on a mound.)

I'll be surprised if the corn does well, since it does best in large gangs of the same breed.

I think I'll try it too.

I've done beans on corn before with decent success. I first saw it in Mexico years ago, and I thought it was pretty ingenious. Though it was still row-planted...

Post updates on here, let us know how it goes! I'm a gardening fool, and I'm always looking at new things to try! :)

:)

I've never tried growing this way,but learned some about it longer ago than I'd care to think when I did outdoor ed. We would do a campout with the kids and make "Three Sisters Stew."

I think you would have to plant a fair number of mounds, and close together, so that the corn could get sufficiently pollinated.

Maybe the landrace corn that was here was more prone to self pollination?

We'll see how it works. The spot that's a available only has room for two mounds. I'll be happy to post pics of my mounds for all to see.

If that's the case, just hand pollinate them. I do it anyway, just because I'm antsy to get my garden going. Just shake the pollen on top of all the tufts :)

Can we get a VG to move this to L&S, please?

How's it coming along IASW? I've never tried the 3 sisters garden and want to one day. This year I made 4 raised bed gardens (4 feet by 8 feet) at our community organic garden and I love it. I can't wait to see the results. I get so much out of both my successes and failures when gardening :-)
