We are writing to ask your support for our friend and neighbor, Brianne Diomede. Last May, at the age of 35, Brianne was stunned with a diagnosis of stage 3 breast cancer, which had spread to her lymph nodes. Because the cancer was extremely aggressive and advanced, Brianne has suffered through a stringent regimen of treatment. After enduring five months of chemotherapy, Brianne underwent a double mastectomy and removal of the entire lymph system in her right arm. This was followed by 28 sessions of radiation. The treatment has caused early-stage lymphedema which limits her mobility and strength, and which must be constantly attended to prevent aggravation.
Brianne is now permanently disabled and, as a result, has lost her job, and with it, the health insurance that was essential in aiding her battle. Her treatment is not complete, as she will require several additional surgeries and therapies. Her heart and other organs were permanently damaged by the chemo, she is at increased risk for future complications and illnesses, and the preventative medicine she must take for the next five years has dreadful side effects. Her body, and her life, will never be the same.
Throughout it all, Brianne has retained her sense of humor, dignity and optimism to a degree which inspires all who know her. But now, Brianne and her family need our help. Her medical bills are mounting, and without health insurance, the tally continues to grow.
We have organized a benefit on Sunday, April 14, 2013, at the Stone Pony in Asbury Park. Many of the shore’s most popular bands and musicians will perform throughout the afternoon, and we will hold a 50/50 raffle and a gift auction to raise funds.
Brianne’s husband, Mark, is a renowned musician and the founding member and lead guitarist of the prominent bands, Solar Circus and Juggling Suns. Brianne is an extremely talented artist, and worked as an embroiderer and designer. The damage to her right arm limits her continued work at her trade. Both Brianne and Mark have contributed their talents to numerous benefits over the years. This time, they need our support.
Brianne has lived in Point Pleasant since she was 10, and her grandparents and extended family have been residents since 1947. She attended St. Denis School in Manasquan and graduated from St. Rose High School in Belmar in 1994. Brianne and Mark live in Point with their two daughters, Azalea, who attends fifth grade at Nellie Bennett School, and Melody, a toddler.
We understand that our community has been hard-hit financially these last few months, and that this request is coming at a difficult time. We humbly ask you to consider donating products, gift certificates or money towards this cause. If you are unable to contribute, but know another merchant or friend who might be able to give, please pass this letter along. If you would like to learn more, or become involved in this event, please contact Jennifer Holmes Enright at 732-604-8811.
Thank you so much for your time and consideration. We hope this spring will be a time of revitalization for our community, and with your help, a time of renewal for Brianne and her family.
With deepest thanks,
The Friends of Brianne Diomede
