Were they full of shit or is that legitimately the world's largest truckstop?

Not quite on the road to WI, but pretty damn close.

What's so cool about it, other than room for 800 trucks?

and they sell gas! (gasp!)

What kind of an American am I, you ask?

I am the kind of American who went miles out of her way last summer just to get a picture of Lil Jerry atop the world's largest working chainsaw, Big Gus.   :Phishfolk:

THAT'S what kind of an lolAmerican I am.

No - they don't fire it up very often, but it would have been cool.

Was on the phone with truck dispatchers allllll day and thought of you PieDoh.

I know you are into the long hauling... and man does that seem like a better gig than the truckers I deal with in Norfolk and Savannah.

40' HQ reefers..... the steam ships allow you 3 days with them. And the 3rd day ends right at the port cutoff. Of course many times, they have to do the haul the day of the cutoff. These guys have to sit in 4 hours of lines to get the empty gated-out. Drive 3 miles to the freezer...if they are 10mins or more late they get moved to the 'late line' and have to wait an hour or 2 (and get a detention fine by the freezer) ... then get live loaded under the supervision of a USDA inspector which takes 2-3 hours. Then it's the 3 mile drive back to the terminal to wait in line again to turn the thing in. If they are late and miss the cutoff, they can get stuck overnight with the container, and have to refill the genset with gas to keep the -18C temp and turn it back in the morning. Of course by this point the carrier has rolled the booking and they get stuck with about $1500 in demurrage charges. The shipper won't pay for it since the trucker accepted the dray in the first place.

That's all these drivers do... 12 hour days and only driving for 20 minutes of it. I'm no trucker but I think I'd actually like to be moving down the road instead of sitting there staring at the clock the whole day.

p=m*v, where m=mass and v=velocity...

momentum= 74000x95ft/SEC.
7,030,000 FT/LB/SEC.

We can surmise that: the momentum is sufficient to overcome the tensile strength of steel in a steer axle.

your turn.... :lol:

Thing of the past. With ultra low sulfur diesel (U lsd) and the modern electronically controlled (everything)....EGR, DPF,DEF, regeneration cycles....a modern diesel is far preferrable to gas exhaust. Some soot, yes, but diesel exhaust is not lethal and gasoline exhaust is...
