Why are people such sheep?

The best are the shared feel good stories that are complete bullshit.
Are people really that gullible? Do people not research before posting?

Agreed, though not entirely innocent on facebook
But another place I see this is in large groups.
When I used to leave a subway station to work every morning people would line up to exit out the one propped open door, while there are 9 other doors that are unlocked, but not propped open. People que up and wait to walk through, I walk past all them and open a damn door.

We are conditioned to not do much independent thinking.

I know what you mean about sheep though, I've always been a divergent thinker and unafraid to stand out, but a lot of people punish people like that in their day-to-day interactions for some reason... kind of scary actually in my opinion

This pertains especially to Facebook. They'll like and share something because they think they'll get money or a free computer though it's blatantly a hoax.

Regarding the like and share to win something. Recently, I posted the question on FB 'has anyone actually ever one anything by liking a page on FB'. I asked because I really was curious, and up until that point had assumed all were hoaxes. Several friends replied that they did indeed win something from different pages. Now, I realize that not all are legit... but I assumed all were not and that is not the case. I guess my point is, everyone's perception of 'legit' is different.
The feel good stories? Well, I for one do not repost stories. However, when one seems hard to believe I typically research it and if it's BS I privately let the person who reposted it know... But, to your question, 'are people really that gullible?'. I don't think it's that simple. Perhaps there is a sense of trust that folks get when using social media because it's info coming from 'friends' amd people assume that info that comes from friends is legit/true/factual?
That's just my take on it.

I like to think of myself as an independent thinker...perhaps not the best thinking is involved but at least it's still my own thinking...
Acceptance is prolly the root cause of the sheep flocking crew?
