Boardie BBQ & Gathering
April 20, 2013 (Saturday)
Tourne Park, Denville, NJ
9am-7pm, Rain or Shine

General:
My arrival is at 8:30am or so...with a light breakfast for those who show up early.  Lunch to be served around 12:00pm, with lunch blurring into dinner, roughly 5pm.   There will be dinner specific items.    The menu is TBD, but it’ll most likely be a roaster based dinner menu (Ex: Turkeys, Hams, Pork Roasts, Beef Roasts, Etc) with potentially a grilled lunch menu (Ex: Sausages, burgers, dogs, Chicken, London broils).    "Served till it runs out" style.   Park closes by sunset, so 5:30/6:00pm is when the breakdown begins...

I'll Provide:
-Lite Breakfast for the Early Birds (Please RSVP specifically for Earlybird service)
-Full Lunch
-Full Dinner

-Some Hot dogs for kids
-Some Simple Sides & Vegetarian Specific items
-Soft Drinks & Ice Water
-All Equipment (Roaster/King Cooker/Iced Salad bar/paper products & plasticwares)
-Ice & Some Coolerspace

Please Bring:
-BYO Beer/Wine/Alcohol/mixers
-If you feel so moved, Please bring desserts/apps/snacks/chips/vegetarian items, etc.   Although I always have plenty of food, the limited budget keeps my focus on the main stuff.

-Comfortable shoes (some really nice trails around).
-Sports equipment: Softball field close by. Open fields for frisbees, wiffle ball. There's bike trails too.
-Acoustic Instruments for the cosmic jam out??

Costs:
Includes Food/Soft Drinks & $150 park permits, which includes the alcohol permit:
-$17.00/Person PREPAID.
-$20.00/Person DAY OF EVENT (I might consider a reduced fee for late arrivals).
-Children under 6: Free. Children 7-10: $7/child
-"Just Hang" no Food/Beverage: $5/each to help pay for the $150 grove rental fee & Alcohol permit.
-Please Prepay By April 12th. There's a great potential for me to take a bath on this, especially if I pre-purchase food for the people who "YES" me to death, but flake out and "no show".

-No refunds offered.   With an expected 25-30 people, the budget is very tight…

Nice nice.  Sounds like it's business as usual with this...already a good amount of positive energy flowing, and plenty of hands to help where needed.   I'm psyched.

Did you have something in mind?

There's always a small afterparty back at my house for the few brave helpers...  After we spend 30-45 minutes banging out the dishes and scrubbing the coolers, the hang out begins.     But the post picnic thing has never been formalized... but it could be!

Tyler and I are in, hoping we can persuade Nurze Needlez and Blanche to join us as well! :ura1:

Happy to see that the park is dog friendly - we will be bringing Pogo Puppy with us! :cur:

Need to figure out a place to stay, b/c 3 hours back home doesn't sound like as much fun as hangin' with friends. :)

I like to cook and would be down for helping with that in the first shift.   :ChefJeff:

We will bring some sort of goodie to share with folks as well, but won't know what that will be until much closer to the event.  :bokchoi:

Considering that vibes isn't on our festie menu for this year, we'll make this boardie BBQ out checkpoint for seeing lots of our Vibes folks!  :newcolor:

Yay! :bliss:

Hey who has instruments they plan to bring.? Please PM me if you play, what u play, and any songs you know. I wanna organize the misic into skme cohesive way, since it will be an open jam for the most part. At minimum we will have 2 acoustic guitars, and an acoustic bass guitar. My buddy would let you park on his property.     It's in another neighborhood in Denville, and we'd be able to shuttle you.   Total worst case, it's walkable distance.   About a mile+.

The Exhange in Rockaway is the first that comes to mind.   A place about 1.5 miles from my house that does have some bands periodically.      But be advised, I don't go out to the local bars much anymore, so I can't even tell you if there's a music scene locally.

The closest *real* place is the Stanhope house, in Stanhope.

I take this opportunity to invite a couple of my local friends with kids too.

To some extent, keeping the event kid friendly is part of the reason why it happens at the Tourne park.     I've considered having this party at my house so we can abandon the $150 fees..which is pretty significant for a party of 25... but my house has limitations.    Certainly isn't kid or pet friendly....quite the opposite in fact.

We damned near killed my friend's dog a handful of years ago.   It wandered around my house unattended for just a few minutes...when we had discovered it had eaten one of those green mice poison blocks.     $2000 worth of treatments, including blood transfusions later, the dog luckily survived.     Close call.
