I figure pizza places don't usually have a drive through, so, NO, Right?
Is Pizza considered "Fast Food"?

a lot of pizza could be considered junk food...not fast
but there are the "healty" versions... whole grain crusts, lots of veggie toppings, less cheese, etc.
No one asked about pizza's health merits....ergo no one cares.
Nicole, I'd say yes, grabbing a slice of NY pizza and walking out eating it makes it fast food.

fast food/junk food are often perceived as the same thing ![]()
and ya - it's apparent you don't care about the health merits of food
but speak for yourself, not everyone ![]()

I agree. Yesterday I had two slices and a can of Dr. Pepper ($2.75), consumed standing at the counter in the window. I didn't walk out eating it, but I've always though pizza tastes better in the window.

Get off your high horse and go freak people out at Tammany Hall
What makes you better than anyone else to the point where you can talk down to someone in a snide, bitchy tone because of what you perceive their choices to be? Who the hell do you think you are? Jane Fonda?

I'd put pizza in the same category as a deli or a restaurant that offers takeout. More convenience than "fast food."
When I think of "fast food" I think of McD's, Burger King, Taco Bell, etc.
Pizza Hut = yes.
I think in some parts of the country, its considered "fine dining." ![]()

When I think of fast food, I think of curry pork buns, chaat, and takoyaki.
That's because you're weird. ![]()
But I can see where you're going with that. If its quick and convenient, no reason it can't be considered fast food. I guess my perception of it is more mass-produced stuff like the places I mentioned.

I'm going with Wikipedia's key differentiator: "typically the term refers to food sold in a restaurant or store with preheated or precooked ingredients, and served to the customer in a packaged form for take-out/take-away."
By your definition, sushi takeout from the finest sushi place in town would be fast food too.
How so? It's food that's presented quickly and consumed quickly.
(By the way I'm in the Bay Area in June, would love to meet up for Asian)
Surely. But June is like 5 years from now in my world so let's talk closer to the date!

But it's prepared upon ordering, therefore not reheated or precooked.

Congratulations. You are the winner of today's prize, a $25 McDonalds gift certificate. Can be used for anything sold at McDonalds, except salads.

In Japan ramen is considered fast food. Real ramen, not cup-o-sodium. You pull up to the bar, order, and it's ready in two minutes. You slurp and are out in 5 minutes. Working Man's lunch.
...and I happen to know of an authentic Japanese ramen shop opening on the lower east side of NYC in a few months. ![]()

LMAO! Love it. Drama in my Pizza thread!!! lol.
Well, I suppose the fact that I didn't have 'time' to get pizza today, kinda makes it not fast food. Im going to vote against that its fast food.... because it doesnt come pre-made.

a 1 lb lobster takes longer than 5 minutes to eat. A piece of sushi is not a meal. Most stir fry takes longer than 5 minutes to eat.
Next question...
You are doing it wrong, a 1 pound lobster only takes a few minutes at most to eat. Give me two pairs of non plastic chop sticks and eating with both hands I can do the stir fry in under 5 minutes. But.....give me a 6oz piece of liver and it will take me an hour and 12 beers.
I can't understand how much time it takes to consume a meal has anything to do with how "fast food" it is. I can spend 30 minutes eating Arby's spicy curl fries and 3 minutes on the lobster. If I smoke maybe double or triple the time, if I have good talkative company it can take much longer......
