who knew the quebec bloc would be losing it's stronghold
the socialists are really moving up as the conservatives haven't
the most successful party in canada's history could be effectively destroyed through marginalization in this election (Liberal party of Canada)
the abc (anyone but Conservative) movement seems to have longer legs this time 'round as more than newfoundland aren't into straussian politics it seems
every poll in the country suggests the new democrats will be in opposition with a tory minority at the head.
a coalition of NDP, Liberal, Bloc and Green will knock the tories out within a month
harper suggests he might be done if he doesn't get his majority
really strange few days ahead as we vote may 2
that would make Jack Layton the next Prime Minister of Canada

a surprising battle for canada's votes is being waged

i
jack! he's the only real person in the race. he bikes to work. he's the only one who looks happy and relaxed around people. he's smart, his people are smart and above all, they are real.
i feel about harper the way a significant number of americans felt about bush. :shudder:
his canada is not mine.

Funny, I'm not a fan of Jack nor the NDP, altho I live in his riding. He'll win here as he does every election, but he won't have my vote.
After doing my research on candidates for my area, I found that I am going to go with someone other than who I originally would have voted for. Gonna head out and vote in another hour or so here, then it'll be interesting to watch all the results roll in this evening.
Harper can go suck a big ol' donkey dick for all I care. I dislike his policies and the way he has been attempting to Americanize our system makes me want to vomit.

well 4 years of straussian neo conservative ethos could do us in in context of majority
given the first part of the equation we got right there is room to at least get the truth out
the confining of policy to the privy council office and the office of the prime minister is going to get much more concentrated
much more secretive
much more insidious
in the next four years harper will show us how much like nixon he is as he smashes down canadian institutions
it won't take him long

A disruptive Kev is the one that I know!
I am hoping that these 4 years fly by and that he doesn't do too much damage.
Do you think he will be fined or anything for the stunt he pulled on the radio on election day? He picks the judges, right? Aren't there 3 that need to be replaced? I would bet nothing happens to him.

supreme court judges are appointed by the governor general (queen's rep in canada)
the governor general will only appoint those names recommended by the privy council office
the privy council office will only appoint those names recommended by the prime minister and cabinet
that's a lot of traditional movement to suggest the prime minister appoints supreme court judges
he will centralize the privy council office and prime minister's office heavily and put more partisans in his centralized bureaucracy
he can do a lot of damage as the canadian prime minister holds a great deal of power with respect to checks and balances...there aren't any as our senate is appointed by the pm as well
totally stocked with partisan neo cons and ready to go.
he won't even get a slap on the wirst for his stunt...probably done on purpose as he is engaged in a lawsuit already with elections canada.
