Why does my Brain not shut down?

I just dont' get it? I want to go to sleep but my brain just will not go there!!!! I don't like drugs!!!!

sometimes, no joke, I start at 1000 and count backwards to 1.... I have never made it past 800.  

 

Insomnia sucks.

 

and I refuse to take sleep aids....   I'll lose my car keys prolly.

stress throughout the day?

 

maybe try exercising during the day, and or meditation.

I sing repetitive songs in my head over and over and over until I'm out.

Ramble On Rose is #1 in the rotation these days.

I have problems winding down if I have too many stimulants...   Caffeine, Sugar...       Pay special attention to the hidden caffeines too, in Chocolates for instance.       I also have similar problems if I don't burn off the calories I take on board during the day.    The unspent calories just seem to not allow me to chill out.    Exercise is the key, along with not overindulging on calories.         There seems to be certain food processing chemicals that cause me trouble...kind of in the vein of caffeine, but a different compound.        For about a month, I was eating dried figs as a snack, and I correlated it to problems sleeping.     Some cheap chocolate does that to me too.      I think aspartame (artificial sweetener) has that effect as well.

 

A killer sleep depriver for me was stressing about the next day's catering job.  Seemed as if I'd always have a sleepless night before important gigs.      

 

Sometimes a midnight snack helps....I go for a banana! 

 

I actually asked my doctor for sleeping pills...was given Xanax.   if it's 1am and I'm staring at the ceiling, I'm not afraid to pop one.    But I refuse to allow myself to take more than maybe a couple a month, if that.

Ya Ambien made me feel too tripped out in the morning. I'd work better with little sleep than hungover from that. So they gave me Xanax, but I agree... it's dangerous to start relying on benzos for anything (for most people).

 

hour at the gym, hot shower, bourbon... babies don't sleep this good.

I always sleep like crap if I fall asleep with the help of alcohol... it helps me get to sleep early and quickly but then I wake up feeling like crap three hours later and can't get back to sleep...
