Let me know if they use pickled carrots and daikon on it. Those are the traditional fixings.

Yes they did, and wow this is so tasty.  I had to wait five minutes for the bread to cool before they made the sandwich.

Normally I do not care for cucumbers, however they taste just fine in this application.

Cukes and bean sprouts are essential in Viet cooking. This thread drove me nuts, brought home bun on my way home last night.

"Banh Mi is all about the bread. We don't have a stone or steam oven so I can't get the crust with quite the same crunch it's supposed to have which drives me crazy. That hasn't slowed down the steady stream of curious locals wanting to try something different. However, a few of them keep asking for Banh Mi on bagels and I keep wanting to say no. That's not right. It's supposed to be on that soft baguette with a thin crackly crust. That's the whole point. The sandwich is named after the bread!! But I've kept my opinions to myself and the bagel requests keep coming. So today, Chris chopped up some extra lemongrass and shallot and we dressed up a bagel adding sriracha, basil, and cilantro to the blend. Matt was rolling his eyes and grumbling, but they barely came out of the oven and someone spotted them. That customer left with his "Bennington" Banh Mi on our Thai Bagel and seemed pretty pleased he was breaking protocol. Isn't that typical Vermont though? Always dancing to the beat of a different drummer? You guys :)  "

ugh. the lemongrass killed it for me.... Did you end up ordering it???

It's what happens when Peacefrog visits Vietnamese Droog Band Message Boards.

LOLOLOLOL!!!

we get fresh banh mi delivered to my local Asian grocer once a week on Saturdays.  when i'm in a strange town, it's one of the first things i look for - you can generally chart the quality of a city's culinary physique by sampling their best banh mi.

TEO i'm happy for you.  but get some pork on that puppy.  make them work.

The grocery by HESS?

As requested: Starting Monday, our Global Weekly Special will be exploring the cuisine of Jamaica. Chicken Jerk anyone?
Don't panic, we're keeping the Banh Mi on the menu too!

"Our Banh Mi was just given the seal of approval from a customer from Vietnam. She said it was just like she makes and the bread is perfect. Phew!!!! She's coming back next Saturday to teach me a few things. I would love to get a good Vietnamese soup going. I'm pretty excited!!!"

That reminds me I want to see if I can get an appointment with her husband.  He is a doctor, or is/was in Vietnam.

It was.  I had a brief time in Bennington yesterday between appointments and said, I will have to check out this Crazy Russian joint Teo raves about.

Best meal of the week so far.

I would've have seen if you were up for a bite, but I wasn't sure I was even going to be in Bennington yesterday until I arrived.  Kind of the way it goes with sales.

Both my office and abode are less than a mile from SWVH, and the doors are always open to you.
