I've been using it for a couple of weeks now.  Very different, but I use it with a touch screen (Lenovo Twist).  Pretty good once you get past the first initial shock of no start button.

Ya I couldnt get past that. Bouncing all around between apps is a pain with touch screen if it's not handheld.

Im OK switch apps.  No Command Prompt is tricky. Finding things like SHUTDOWN, or CONTROL PANEL took some looking.

Yes Windows 8 Pro is all that is offered.

FYI if you Google "Windows 8 Promo code" you can find out how to generate a fresh one of your own to get the $14.99 price.

from what I recall, this special price is for an upgrade, from any windows version (XP/VISTA/Win7)

Yes, I believe it works for upgrading Vista and Window 7. Not sure about XP versions.
You can also download and do a complely clean install if you wish.
It is full version to Windows 8 Pro... you just have to put in that you got the original computer/windows operating system after a specific date (the program doe not verify that the date is "real") and it will generate a new promo code for you.

As I mentioned just Google "Windows 8 promo code" to read all the articles about getting it. I think MS left a big hole allowing for this cheap upgrade on purpose.

Just get it before Jan 31st, when the offer ends.

I think the $14.99 upgrade is only good for Windows 7, while the $39.99 upgrade is good for Vista (and XP I think)

There's a MS utility to download that will show IF your computer can run on 8. 

 

8 is not huge, one of my friends downloaded the whole installation package and it fit on a 4 gig memory stick.

That is possible, although $39.99 is still a bargain to get rid of Vista!

I did the D/L for a Win 7 laptop that I had.  worked like a charm.

 

All I had to do was delete MS Security Essentials (doesnt work on WIN8).  Everything else just worked.  Took about 1.5 hours total.

 

prolly won't do my vista machine, it is kinda a backup machine, and you have to reload all of your Apps.  Win 7 just upgrades, no other stuff needed.

 

 

All in all, I'm very happy with the process and the price.

Last day!  What a difference this made to the new family laptop with windows 7 home!!!!!!!!!!!!

 

so much I retired my dinosaur dell(goodbye xp pro) and got a modern machine(not dell) with windows 7 pro, guess what? it was already upgraded to 8 pro when it arrived.

After a few days, Im liking Win8 more and more.  I finally found Command prompt, it was kinda hidden, along with the RUN command....

I like that from the main/tiles page, if you want to get to "anything", just start typing the name of it and you get a list to choose from...
