and let me just say I now understand why my manager at my former employer was such an asshole

I am very lucky that the first few people I hired are reliable and trustworthy... almost burned a bridge before I realized it was the wrong bridge to burn...

is this why they say be careful what you wish for?

Anyway I'm learning to be much more selective about who I hire and I'm also learning that the grass is definitely not greener on the other side...

it's just spray painted

Don't get me wrong, I'm very glad that I have the services I had waited so long for... but I wish they paid me to manage it because right now it feels like a job

Note/disclaimer: this is a thread in which I will periodically complain/vent about situations relating to being an employer, I am not ever referring to anyone that anyone from here has met or will ever meet, in fact let's just say for all intents and purposes this thread is fiction, similarities to actual events are purely coincidental although in fact they may very accurately reflect reality without ever naming names. This nonsensical disclaimer has now been concluded.

With my catering business, I had about 13 employees.    I feel ya man, it's no picnic being "the man".     When you find a good employee...you make sure you do whatever it takes to keep them happy.     And don't be afraid to get rid of the shitty ones pronto.

thanks :)

thankfully I do have a decent team around me except for that particular individual.

My original post was just about how much more involved the hiring process needs to be then I was allowing it to be... now I get to put that into practice

it'll all work out, I just have to spend the next week or so intensively searching and hiring and hopefully it will have a positive result in the end

oh no I would never post about them on here.. I haven't seen them in a while but those two are really more my friends that help me out than anything else, and they are awesome awesome people as you know... which reminds me I need to call them... but I'm referring to the people paid for through the state program I'm a part of, folks that I hire to help me on a daily basis

so um lets say someone has a "back problem," and they have been prescribed various painkillers muscle relaxants etc... but it could be a legit problem, but it could also just be a "back problem"... let's say those painkillers are being taken by nose because "they don't f#@in' do anything" by mouth, and let's say said person is becoming increasingly spacey due to trying to relieve the "back problem"... should they be given more hours or fired?

(this is a rhetorical question)

If this person with a 'back problem' is crushing and snorting pain killers, they are a junkie.

Nuff said.

what if it's a back problem without air-quotes? I'm guessing still a junkie? I hate these types of situations...

Anyone with a legit back problem should not be working as your aide- you need someone who is able to handle the physical labor.

sounds like they have a deep desire to use their painkillers to the fullest extent as well as a concern for the longevity of their liver?

i feel your pain, jordan...i am a manager in human services and sometimes i am astounded at what my employees think is ok to do at work :bang:

at an outing at a mall and an individual and their staff are late to meet up with you? NO, its NOT ok to leave them there ::rolleyes:

working the 3 to 11 shift at my house? NO, you CANNOT answer your phone in the middle of a 3 person restraint :gah:

i think common sense is a dying art...its seems the exception rather than the rule :dunno:
