Why is it allowed at all?
People are suffering, waiting for $$ to start re-building their lives, but the bill for Sandy contained shit like:

- $200 million for an Amtrak project on its Northeast Corridor rail line
- New funding for Housing and Urban Development projects.
- $400 million for projects like a new roof on the Smithsonian in Washington, D.C., and funding for fisheries in Alaska

And yet it did not contain obvious things like:

- $$ to rebuild the sand dunes in Belmar that washed away.
- No earmark to fix the breached berm in the Meadowlands that flooded Moonachie and Little Ferry.
- No direct payment for the thousands left homeless.

WTF?

http://www.northjers...html?c=y&page=1

Then there is the pork filled Fiscal Cliff deal ........ :bang:

It's disgusting, isn't it.

Also, the Republican House does not like Gov. Christie for his insubordination, NJ, NY and CT are blue states, and the $61billion bill was slashed to $9billion two months after Sandy.
The bill for Katrina went through in a matter of weeks for ~$60billion in red states.

:dunno:

But see here's my point ..... me. we are blaming Boehner for not voting, when this bill contains a bunch of crap and not enough specific help.
Both side playing this game are to blame. Both of em'.

And new rules should be put in place.
No amendments to bills.
Vote on the bill as written - yea or nay.
Maybe leave some room for negotiating the dollar amount.
Then move on to the next bill.

I'm not just blaming Boehner. I'm saying he's a fucking dick anyway, and even more gigantic, crooked, throbbing one for attempting to politicize this issue. The pork included is just fucking disgraceful and should never, ever have been included in a bill like this. And I do agree there is plenty of blame for both sides of the aisle. The dems that signed off on this are just as much at fault.

Couldn't agree more. Congress is so completely dysfunctional now that it would be funny if it wasn't destroying our country.

Exactly.

Nice turnaround attempt. You brought it up, so you show ME where I blamed republicans. Here, I'll post it again, as I did above. Get your glasses and re-read.

On the original topic - it is absolutely disgusting that millions of people who genuinely need help are used as pawns in some infantile pissing match. Fuck Boehner and his owners.

Where did I even mention the word republican, until you made a thinly-veiled accusation? Hmmmm???

Perhaps you, in your anti-Democrat fervor, interpreted "and his owners" as "republicans", but that's just not the case. That is a reference to the corporate overlords that own and control most in both parties. And, in the interest of full disclosure, although it's certainly no secret, I am a Democrat. Democratic Socialist, really, FAR more left-leaning than nearly all the DINOs in congress. And it's also no secret that I do hold a great disdain for many republicans now in power and the direction that party has/is going. However, that has nothing at all to do with the fact that you're wrong, and you put words in my mouth that I did not say.

Finally, perhaps you could enlighten me as to who is in charge of bringing this issue to the floor for a vote, if not Mr. Boehner, the Speaker of the House? Who else is to blame? I'm happy to call them a dick too. You know I like and respect you an awful lot Jack, but you are the one who brought the partisanship into this. I simply impugned a heartless prick who was/is playing politics with those suffering from something completely out of their control, for his own selfish political gain. Believe me, if it was anyone else in that position, I'd have the same thing to say.

Nope, the Republicans were brought up before I was even in the thread.

I never accused you of blaming the Republicans.

What I did do was respond to Elder's post about both sides playing the blame game by stating that some folks won't acknowledge the blame on their side and instead choose to blame the other side (something those in both parties are guilty of doing) but in this case it wasn't me but JBetty who chose to bring the partisanship thing into it.

So despite YOUR thinly veiled accusation, I believe I DO know what I'm talking about
(well at least as far as this is concerned ;) )

funny though, this thread is a perfect example ...

everyone here says the same thing, both partys are to blame, blah, blah, blah.
but as soon as either party is singled out, everyone jumps into action to defend their side and make sure we all know its really the other side that is worse.

and we're all friends/family

no wonder half of the country distrusts the other half

We're being played people.

I know you were just using that as an example but I just think that it's one area where I'm okay with the expenditure... it's also obvious to me that there are entrenched interests who are doing a lot to ensure a lot of the big problem areas that are in their favor don't ever get dealt with properly... but when I look at the situation in this country I see one group that has a few more people that are trying to do things that would legitimately improve the situation for most people in this country and I see another group that is willing to throw everyone under the bus because they're mad that a vote didn't go the way they wanted it to... sure there are people on both sides who do things like that but I see a lot more of them on one side than the other...

but overall I am sickened by the amount of corporate influence and money on all sides indeed...

I'm getting a kick out of reading some of the stuff on the Katrina Time Line on the ThinkProgress site.

Seriously WTF does this shit have to do with it

CONDOLEEZZA RICE VISITS U.S. OPEN: “Rice, [in New York] on three days’ vacation to shop and see the U.S. Open, hitting some balls with retired champ Monica Seles at the Indoor Tennis Club at Grand Central.”

CONDOLEEZZA RICE GOES SHOE SHOPPING: “Just moments ago at the Ferragamo on 5th Avenue, Condoleeza Rice was seen spending several thousands of dollars on some nice, new shoes (we’ve confirmed this, so her new heels will surely get coverage from the WaPo’s Robin Givhan). A fellow shopper, unable to fathom the absurdity of Rice’s timing, went up to the Secretary and reportedly shouted, ‘How dare you shop for shoes while thousands are dying and homeless!’”

Excuse me, but this thread is about pork.

Heres one from the recent Fiscal Cliff deal...

Section 328: What would a bi-partisan Bill be without a section giving money to Goldman Sachs. This section extends “tax exempt financing for York Liberty Zone”. Twelve years ago after the attacks on Sept. 11, Congress approved funding to help companies located in the destroyed twin towers and other effected buildings relocate to new offices. More than a decade later, taxpayers are still funding the corporate high-rises and penthouses of financial giants like Bank of America. Cost: TBD. But Goldman Sachs alone has reportedly received over $1.6 billion just from this one program.
