hands down, for me it was the band who opened for RMB in Boston, night 2, Lake Street Dive
Just a really tight, funky band whose energy is off the charts

Probably the most pleasant musical surprise I had was seeing the Avett Brothers at Vibes. I had never even heard of them... then Gotroot started talking them up so I got curious. Ended up really enjoying their set & have since picked up some of their stuff from Amazon.

2012 was a really slow year for me as far as going to shows.

I can't even think of a band that blew me away last year.

Oh that's right I really enjoyed that. That female vocalist was amazing. Right up until the last song when they "tricked' us with feedback.

who they really tricked was the sound crew

Basically they left all their instruments on in feedback loops and the crew had to go around on stage and manually shut off every single amplifier/instrument until they got it to stop... craziness...

cabinet and jesse dee blew me away too...jesse dee i have see several times prior to 2012, however, i have to replace phish with cabinet as i forgot they were spring of 2012 and they indeed BLEW ME AWAY!

i really enjoyed sister sparrow and the dirty birds' supporting set for mule the other night in philly. blown away might not be the best way to describe how i felt since i've heard about them, in glowing terms, for a while...but they sure did live up to the hype!

My "new" band is actually "old" ~ The Rascals !!!
"How Can I Be Sure" was in my head for 2 weeks after seeing them @ The Capitol , and I had no problem with that...

I just saw this band on tv that completely blew me away- on letterman- Vintage Trouble- the lead singer is like a young james brown, drummer bashes like Bonham and killer guitarist

Seeing a metal guitarist in Mickey's band gave me hope for my own deathmetalhead guitar player son's prospects.
