how about this for a rule of thumb... it's not a person until the mother or father gives it a name. It's about as ambiguous as any other guideline.

Kind of.
We had tossed around names for both boy and girl each time, but could never really decide.
Once they were born, it became obvious fairly quickly what the name would be.

None of my kids had names either until after they were born. MY second son went 3 days before I finally decided.

Last year Aleks' name was Laura until after I had her.

And as for abortion.....Well, I guess I don't understand this thread at all. What are you looking for? Something Scientific? Or opinions?

that's just practical thinking... gives you time to decide whether or not you really want to keep them.

so yeah TASB, do you want science or opinions?

It seems the "science" on this is a matter of opinion.

scientifically, it is a lump of human DNA

legally, it is not a person.

if it's legally not a person, than morally it is not murder.

If a baby is born on January 1, 2013 can it be written off as a dependent on your 2012 tax return?

because it is a wedge issue that opportunists can exploit for political advantage.

I'm not sure if you saw my question, but it wasn't rhetorical. Can you write off a baby as a dependent if it was born after the New Year?

People couldn't possibly come to these decisions on their own. We need a committee n shet for this sos the gov't can decide which is right for me.

Now you're talking IRS rules which have nothing to do with morality.

I agree. But, it could be used as a legal precedent as proof that an unborn fetus is not a person.

But my real point in all this is that the 12 week cutoff is a compromise that we came to many years ago, but for some reason it's getting brought back up again.

If the pro-life people want to re-negotiate, then fine... but I think it will cost them tax dollars that they're not willing to part with.

It is morally repugnant that you crossed the street outside the crossing zone and while the indicator had don't walk flashing. Get right with your chosen god.
